Current state:

| data36      = {{#if:{}|Mixed martial arts record from Sherdog}}

Proposed state:

| data36      = {{#if:{}|Mixed martial arts record from Sherdog|}}
Explanation

The change will import fighters Sherdog ID from wikidata, unless it was hardcoded in the article itself. Here are two example for the functionality of for a fighter without a Sherdog ID on Wikidata and another with one.

With Sherdog IDMarvin Vettori

Mixed martial arts record from Sherdog
Without Sherdog IDAriane Carnelossi

Mixed martial arts record from Sherdog

Nothing changes in the template and its usage. There is full backwards compatibility to existing articles. The only change is that IF there is, or will be, an article without a hardcoded Sherdog ID, but with the ID apearing on Wikidata, than the information will show on Wikipedia as well. The same format could (and I think, should) be used for BoxRec boxer ID (P1967) and official website (P856), for example. Deancarmeli (talk) 11:51, 24 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

  • Oppose: Wikidata is not protected as no counter vandalism system in place with small traffic view from readers and if the info is vandalised, no one would notice as not like Wikipedian en. The current system work well from the beginning. Dont change thing that is work and invite the potential of flaw of new changes. Cassiopeia talk 23:35, 24 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
      Not done Insufficient consensus to implement. Per Wikipedia:Template editor#When to seek discussion for template changes, Per RFC consensus (2013), it's best to seek consensus before adding Wikidata functionality to a template or module. Discussions in 2016 and 2018 have found that using Wikidata in templates, particularly infoboxes, remains relatively contentious * Pppery * it has begun... 01:03, 25 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Insert, above MMA professional record, a "UFC Ranking" bar, similar to tennis infoboxes. Would be very easy, and practical. MarioBayo (talk) 11:23, 12 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Fix issue outlined in this discussion and add a subheading for the embedded infobox, akin to "Martial arts career", as is custom for embedded infoboxes/modules. Throast ping me! (talk | contribs) 20:57, 20 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Please remove the pointless piping from line data35, as Boxrec.com just redirects back to BoxRec.

data35 = {{#if:{}|Boxing record from BoxRec

data35 = {{#if:{}|Boxing record from BoxRec

Refs breaking the template in certain fields

edit

Please fix this, where the red text occurs – "Expression error: Unrecognized punctuation character "?"." It's important that refs can be inserted into those fields, to clarify varying sources for results. Mac Dreamstate (talk) 02:15, 19 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

This is a GIGO issue, but since there isn't anything in the documentation specifically prohibiting refs or otherwise indicating that these values should only be numerical, I have gone ahead and added _ref parameters for each of the boxing terms (in this particular instance, the article in question now uses |box_nc_ref=). Wonderful, looks good. Mac Dreamstate (talk) 12:24, 19 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Nickname and Other name

edit

I noticed that you can't use both the "nickname" and "other name" fields at the same time. Is this intentional?-Killashaw (talk) 01:20, 15 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Yes; the code is {{if empty|{}|{}}}, so using |other_names= will stop |nickname= from showing. Primefac (talk) 09:41, 16 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
Why do we want to hide nickname if there is an "other name"?--Killashaw (talk) 21:19, 16 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
No idea, I just know it's not a bug or glitch. Primefac (talk) 08:54, 17 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
Does anyone object to removing that code so we can have both "nickname" and "other name" fields in the same infobox?--Killashaw (talk) 20:15, 18 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
It's not about removing code. Currently the two parameters allow one to choose a label between "Other names" & "Nickname(s)". To allow both, you'd have to "push down" labels, data & classes 5 to 37 and create a new label5 & data5. CLalgo (talk) 08:31, 19 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
Ok, thanks. I'll stop trying to pretend I understand the code. Does anyone object to changing the code so we can have both "nickname" and "other name" fields in the same infobox?--Killashaw (talk) 19:08, 20 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
No one seems to be complaining, so I have implemented this. Primefac (talk) 09:53, 24 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
