Hi,
I suggest to add some precision to the racing category link of the infobox so that the different categories links to the paragraph in the 'Grand Prix motorcycle racing' article or to the correct article (see 50cc)
List of changes is the following:
Original MotoGP World Championship Modified MotoGP World Championship Original 250cc World Championship Modified 250cc World Championship Original 125cc World Championship Modified 125cc World Championship Original 50cc World Championship Modified 50cc World Championship

AMA MX & AMA SX
editPlease add AMA Supercross and AMA Motocross motorcycle riders to this info box. Unless someone with greater knowledge than me adds the subject categories I will attempt adding them. At the same time maybe it would be appropriate to add some personal stats as well. For example height and weight. -- Cdw ♥'s ♪ ♫(talk) 16:33, 19 May 2017 (UTC)
New parameters needed
editThis edit request has been answered. Set the |answered= or |ans= parameter to no to reactivate your request. |
Would it be possible for someone to add some new parameters, following those existing shown? I have looked but the coding is beyond my comprehension and I don't expect to need to do it often.
- As is: | TT Contested = | TT Wins = | TT First win = | TT Last win = | TT Podiums =
- Please add beneath: |Classic TT Contested = |Classic TT Wins = |Classic TT First win = |Classic TT Last win = |Classic TT Podiums =
This is prompted by recent changes to John McGuinness (motorcyclist) who has won Classic TTs (held in August as part of the Manx Grand Prix period of racing) since recovering/returning to racing after serious injury, and has expressed an intention to once again enter 'normal' TT schedule in May/June (BBC dated 10 Jan 2020).
The TT database is partly incomplete, but seems to be differentiating between TTs and Classic TTs as a seperate entity (the Isle of Man government are midst a promotion for this latter, alternative race period). I've actually lost count, but according to this version TT wins=23, Classic TT wins=2. It is in the lede prose, a little messy presently, but infobox would be helpful. Thanks.--Rocknrollmancer (talk) 16:04, 11 January 2020 (UTC)
Further again to the above Classic TT parameters requested, would it be possible to also add the following parameters for the Manx Grand Prix? I tried to do it myself but clearly I failed to understand something & the new parameters failed to appear in the output so I reverted my changes.
- Please add beneath: |Manx GP Contested = |Manx GP Wins = |Manx GP First win = |Manx GP Last win = |Manx GP Podiums =
Also, apparent global parameters |First Race = |Last Race = appear in documentation but are not recognised by 'Infobox motorcycle rider' if used.
Also note, until I added thius second request there was no 'semi-protected' request for Rocknrollmancer's request that I added mine to...

- I am at an impasse. Every attempt I have made to so much as touch this page has caused all sorts of collateral damage & not achieved any positive result. There are no comments in the code that even hint at how it functions. I clearly do not understand how it works, & I do not understand how to experiment with it without catastrophically breaking a live service (I thought I did but... I broke the live Motorcycle rider infobox). Ken Haylock (talk) 08:43, 4 June 2022 (UTC)

- OK, will do. It seems to me that if one understands the code, adding these new parameters should be trivial. Which suggests that either nobody else understands the code either, or that it's not trivial at all because of the underlying design. I was hoping to learn from tracking the changes that somebody else adding parameters would make. As an alternative, if the developer of the code in question or somebody who has done the hard work of working out how it works would consider commenting it lavishly, I might be able to do this myself without breaking everything else in the process... - @Khaylock: I've had a go at adding the new parameters in the template's sandbox. You can see an example of the updated template in use here. For simplicity, I've put the Classic TT stats in their own section, but they could be included in the "Isle of Man TT" section if you prefer. DH85868993 (talk) 10:56, 6 June 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you, that was incredibly helpful; I note at first glance I note the per-parameter #if statements. It also appears to work! I now have something to test & tweak, & then I'll update all the documentation on the motorcycle rider infobox template before I deploy anything... thank you again! Ken Haylock (talk) 16:53, 6 June 2022 (UTC)
- I can now see the obvious error in my best attempt at making the changes in question myself. On the one hand I wasn't far away, on the other hand D'OH! Still, I'm going to try & pay it forward by adding a few comments to the template :-) Ken Haylock (talk) 17:14, 6 June 2022 (UTC)
- @Khaylock: I'm glad my changes were helpful. Yes, templates can be a bit fiddly - one bracket in the wrong place and the whole thing doesn't work! Regards. DH85868993 (talk) 21:38, 6 June 2022 (UTC)
