Removal of motto parameter, on what basis?

edit

I see that someone has apparently unilaterally removed the motto parameter, after we had an RfC (see most recent archive page) that did not come to a consensus from that result, and some spotty follow-on discussion indicating that earlier removal of mission and slogan parameters was engendered by a tiny handful of inexperienced editors most of whom are blocked or otherwise gone. So where exactly is the consensus discussion that concluded to remove |motto=? If there wasn't one, then it should be restored immediately, and the removal of it from article in the interim should stop until this matter is settled.  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  03:59, 19 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

SMcCandlishI did not see this until after the removal was complete. There were at least three of us involved in the removal (which had gotten about half way through the alphabet when I started helping). I'm not sure where the decision was to have Motto placed in a halfway state, where it isn't displayed but is kept.
I agree with WP:MISSION and the removal from Infoboxes seems to fit that quite well. If Mission/Slogan is to be kept, I'd appreciate a formal proposal to add it back into what is displayed. In general, I believe that the Category:Infoboxes with unknown parameters subcats represent parameters that can be deleted, or in individual cases moved to a free_label, but in most cases, deleted. I've held off on cleaning Category:Pages using infobox organization with unknown parameters for which Mission represents about 1/3 of the pages (just above 800 out of about 2500).Naraht (talk) 17:43, 22 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Naraht: I think you meant to link to the categories and not categorize this page itself, so I placed the ":" at those 2 spots within your comment, assume you do not mind. Zaathras (talk) 22:48, 30 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
Zaathras Thank you. My apologies.Naraht (talk) 23:12, 30 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
I noticed this too, and I'm not convinced that this change has adequate consensus, nor that there is now some sort of shift whereby editors who want to go back have suddenly become the ones who have to establish a new consensus. I do think there are some cases where the slogan is not just empty verbiage. On the other hand, there is always the simple workaround of putting the slogan, with sourcing, into the text, where appropriate. --Tryptofish (talk) 17:50, 2 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

How to highlight outdated information

edit

While editing Critical Path Institute I stumbled upon a |leader_title that was not updated since years. I think it would make sense to add a parameter such as |leader_asof where the date of last update could be indicated. This way, readers would be informed if the information could be obsolete. This could be done for all information that are subject to change. What do you think? Broc (talk) 08:38, 31 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hooman Mallahzadeh Can you please give a measure of how common it is for organizations to have this?Naraht (talk) 14:58, 29 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Naraht No, I can't prove how common it is. But I'm somehow sure that it is very important to note that in Infoboxes. Read Sound trademark please. Hooman Mallahzadeh (talk) 15:03, 29 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

What properties does it use to link with the correct Wikidata entity?
What are the practical difference between Template:Infobox organization and Template:Infobox organization/Wikidata?
It seems also the non-Wikidata variant can fetch entries from Wikidata, or at least the official URL.
