Recent changes
editI recently made some changes to the next/prev years and list of season links at the bottom - the changes mean that if any article doesn't exist, it will not redlink. It also means that if some parameters are not included (e.g. "prevlink"/"prevyear" for the first season of a league) it will not break the template. I made these change only after thorough testing, so I don't believe I have broken anything - please let me know if there are any issues. -- Chuq (talk) 00:57, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
I've just made another change - introduced the optional parameters for season_champ_name, league_champ_name, etc. so alternate names for "League champion" and "Season champion" can be used. The example is for the A-League, where "champions" and "premiers" are used. See User:Chuq/A-League season for usage examples. -- Chuq (talk) 06:43, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
- I've added a separate "Minor premiers" to the infobox. Essentially it's the same as "League champion" above, but in some leagues the title has less importance than runners-up. I wasn't sure how best to accommodate it, so I added a separate parameter below runners-up. Cheers. – Liveste (talk • edits) 23:37, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
'Next' link does not work!
editHi, The 'previous' link works, but the 'next' does not. I've noticed this in the pages 2011–12 A-League where a next page does exists but cannot be accessed. Can someone please help! Thanks. -- User:2nyte 10:27, 13 April 2012 (AEST)
Promotion/relegation
editI'm a little frustrated with the rigidity of the "promoted" function here. In the context in which I'm trying to use it (lets call it Division 2), I want to say who was promoted and relegated from Division 2 as a result of this season described in the infobox in question. So in that case, what it needs to say isn't "promoted from…" but "Promoted to Division 1:". Doesn't that make sense? Would it be possible to add a function to the template allowing for a "promoted to" field as opposed to the existing "promoted from"? — SwedishPenguin | Talk 13:58, 1 July 2013 (UTC)
- Apparently, this was fixed in an incorrect way. Now the template works for the second tier, but not for the first anymore. There is a difference between "promoted to" and "promoted from". The label for the value
promote_from
should say "promoted from" and it should only say "promoted to" ifpromote_to
is used. --GregorBungensheim (talk) 11:55, 2 May 2022 (UTC)
Top goalkeeper/goaltender
editAny objections to adding a 'Top goalkeeper/goaltender' line below 'Top scorer'? It would be either goalkeeper or goaltender, not goalkeeper/goaltender. I suggest it be optional, of course. Alaney2k (talk) 20:30, 26 February 2014 (UTC)
- This'll open the floodgates on adding best <insert position here>, although goalkeepers has to be the most special(ized) ones out there. Kinda unfair though that we'd leave out the "best defender" if there's a "top scorer"... –HTD 00:02, 27 February 2014 (UTC)
- Association football (goalkeeper) has a separate infobox so if they can be obliged to add one, do we add one here too for the rest of the sports with goalkeepers/tenders (the hockey codes, water polo, what else?). –HTD 01:20, 27 February 2014 (UTC)
Problems with prev/alt/next seasons
editThere's a problem with these. If prev is left blank there's something strange, see: 1958 FIBA European Champions Cup. Maybe the first altseason_link should have left not right (3 lines after data56) but even so it needs to check if alt is set or not. In fact I'm confused about what the alt is trying to achieve. Is it intended that all 3 can be defined or is the alt intended to be an alternative for prev/next. See: 2000–01 FIBA SuproLeague which looks okish but shorten altseason_year to xxx and it looks a bit odd. Nigej (talk) 08:17, 11 January 2015 (UTC)
- Nigej, not exactly sure what it's for either, but clearly the 1958 example shows there was a typo with it being stuck in there twice. seems to me that it should be centre aligned? Frietjes (talk) 16:40, 11 January 2015 (UTC)

As sports rights are now increasingly held by streaming video broadcasters that are not necessarily classified as "TV" in the sense implied by this template, I think the wording should be updated to reflect the current technological environment. ViperSnake151 Talk 15:25, 26 June 2020 (UTC)

The section of the template that does "Check for unknown parameters" should accept World_Series_MVP and World_Series_MVP_link as valid parameters. Currently, use of these fields produces spurious warning errors. See for example 2013 Major League Baseball season (Edit source, Show preview). Thank you. Number of games
editApparently in North American English, "number of games" doesn't refer to "number of games" but "number of games per team". Can we add another parameter for this, then change it to this new one for the Big 4 leagues' seasons? With discussion, of course. Howard the Duck (talk) 14:33, 14 December 2020 (UTC)

Update placement of NFL Draft content
editSee CFB render:
Where the 2015 NFL Draft (person) content:
2015 NFL Draft Top draft pick Marcus Mariota (Oregon) Picked by Tennessee Titans, 2nd overall
is rendered above both the 2014 (team) Regular season and 2014 (team) Championship sections.
Contrast with:
- 2018–19 NCAA Division I men's basketball season - Men's basketball has "Player of the Year" below all team-oriented rankings, tournaments and champions (NCAA, NIT, CBI, CIT) sections.
- 2019 NCAA Division I baseball season - Baseball has "Most Outstanding Player" below all team-oriented preseason, tournament, and College World Series sections.
While Draft/PotY/MOP content are slightly different individual accomplishments, the CFB render of NFL Draft content should follow latter those two models. Individual achievement should be located beneath the team-level achievements which are the core topic of the season and the article. UW Dawgs (talk) 19:23, 10 June 2021 (UTC)

I've tested a few variations, and I found the first rendition a significant improvement; however, having to account for possible errors may have taken some of the wind out of its wings. Keep thinking, 'What if this?' and 'What if that?', so don't think this is as much of an improvement now. I could be wrong, so what is needed is more discussion and, hopefully, a consensus to emerge. And maybe some way to actually remove the problem automatically without throwing an error is needed? P.I. Ellsworth , ed. put'r there 16:02, 5 July 2022 (UTC)

TemplateData
editCan we get TemplateData for this infobox? This infobox is used far too often to be missing it. –Aidan721 (talk) 19:23, 6 July 2022 (UTC)
- TemplateData is added to the documentation, which in this case is not protected. P.I. Ellsworth , ed. put'r there 10:55, 8 July 2022 (UTC)
- So why would that mean that it can't be added? Other protected templates have it. –Aidan721 (talk) 13:00, 8 July 2022 (UTC)
- The implication was not that TD can't be added, the implication was that it does not take an admin or TE to add it. Even you could add it, isn't that correct? P.I. Ellsworth , ed. put'r there 00:30, 10 July 2022 (UTC)
- From my experience, it's easier to auto-generate TD when you have access to edit the template. –Aidan721 (talk) 03:12, 10 July 2022 (UTC)
- If the documentation is on a separate page, why would one need access to edit the template? Only access to read the template's code and find the parameters should be needed, whether auto- or manually-generated. And if the documentation is directly in the code of a protected template, then that needs updating to get the documentation a page of its own (/doc). P.I. Ellsworth , ed. put'r there 02:47, 11 July 2022 (UTC)

Add decimal separator into Total attendance13 October 2022
editThis edit request has been answered. Set the |answered= or |ans= parameter to no to reactivate your request. |
Right now the total attendance shown doesn't have decimal separator.(Example:2022–23 SuperLega) When the number is big, it's not convenient for people to read. Here is an example with decimal separator shown in the total attendance. (2022 FIVB Volleyball Women's World Championship) Hope we can add decimal separator into Total attendance. Also it's good to calculate the avg attendance. :

Separate Streaming partners parameter
editUnless there are any objections, I would like to add a |streaming=
parameter here. For the same reason on Template talk:Infobox sports league#Separate TV Partners from Streaming partners, some leagues have multiple different partners for TV and internet. In the case here, these streaming partners may change each season. I have access to edit template-protected pages, so I will wait a week or two, or maybe longer, if anybody would like to make a comment on this. Thanks. Zzyzx11 (talk) 03:57, 22 January 2024 (UTC)
