Template talk:ISFDB title

Short stories

edit

This also works for short stories, but the formatting is wrong as a short story would be "Title" as opposed to Title. I'm not sure what the fix is, as it'd be a shame to create a separate template, but I thought I'd flag the issue anyway. (Emperor (talk) 17:03, 31 January 2012 (UTC))Reply

It would be possible to use a parameter such as "Short=Yes" and an #IF construct for this purpose. It would mean executing an extra if on each page where the template is used. I'm not sure if it would be worth it. 98.110.24.236 (talk) 16:49, 23 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
It would absolutely be worth it, as not having this option available results in incorrect formatting of titles.
I strongly doubt that one extra if is going to matter in the grand scheme of things. There are templates that are much more widely used that have much higher levels of complexity. Look at any of the "cite" templates, which can appear dozens of times on a single page, for example.
If it's a real concern, you could indeed add a separate template for short stories, but one way or another, this should be implemented.--NapoliRoma (talk) 19:18, 12 February 2016 (UTC)Reply
Aha, finally found the guideline I was looking for: WP:Don't worry about performance. --NapoliRoma (talk) 22:32, 12 February 2016 (UTC)Reply
OK, I went ahead and made this change. Including the parameter "short=yes" will change the formatting to "Title" instead of Title. I haven't changed the documentation yet; hoping someone will cast eyes on my change first. If there are no objections after a few days, I'll add it to the doc.--NapoliRoma (talk) 22:00, 13 February 2016 (UTC)Reply
  Implemented and now documented.--NapoliRoma (talk) 20:23, 20 February 2016 (UTC)Reply
