I hope we can we try to have our LGASA template concur with this official list. The total is 74, whereas the total in the existing template is only 69. Some are missing. — Донама 02:28, 4 May 2006 (UTC)
- since the template doesn't have the Aboriginal councils or Outback trust in it, I'd say we've actually got one too many, but can't spot which one. --Scott Davis Talk 04:52, 4 May 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah, I guess. You know, I must've counted wrong???
- Anyway, do you think the aboriginal councils should be included, even if outback trust is not? — Донама 02:31, 5 May 2006 (UTC)
- Ah, found it. "District Council of Lacepede" -- which doesn't seem to exist. I personally haven't heard of it -- presumably this was somewhere near Kingston (SE) and was the reason for Kingston DC changing its name to Kingston RC. — Донама 01:08, 9 May 2006 (UTC)
difference between district and regional?
editWhat is the difference between district councils and regional councils? To me I can't see any. Does anyone know why the non-metropolitan LGAs are categorised in this way instead of in their geographic region (Central, Eyre Peninsula, South East, etc)? — Донама 02:34, 4 May 2006 (UTC)
- Because that's how cj made it and nobody's tried to change it.
- I think I like having the cities separated out, but would be happy with the above categorisation. It had slightly bugged me that the block of District Councils is too big to readily comprehend, so splitting into more useful groups is good. The obvious differenc ebetween "regional" and "district" councils is the name. I suspect it's more related to how grand the merger was in a round of merging littel councils into bigger ones. Councillors and senior staff probably get more pay for running a Regional Council. --Scott Davis Talk 04:52, 4 May 2006 (UTC)
- It was really arbitrary action on my part - there was no particular basis for the clasification. Clearly, there are both metropolitan and regional cities. Then there is the rest. At the time I couldn't think of how best to divide them in order to avoid an even bigger chunk of text. Donama's idea of categorising them by geography seems okay.--cj | talk 05:37, 4 May 2006 (UTC)
- Okay, if you don't mind mixing "regional councils" and "district councils", which I still don't quite get, we can put the recategorisation of these into the geographic regions (as per the lga.sa.gov.au website) on our todo list. — Донама 02:32, 5 May 2006 (UTC)
new arrangement test
edit
- Please comment. — Донама 01:35, 9 May 2006 (UTC)
- I'd like the headings visually separate (column or row) rather than bolded but in the flow with the councils. Other than that, it looks good. --Scott Davis Talk 05:25, 9 May 2006 (UTC)
- I can't get it- this wiki markup for tables is so unintuitive- will appreciate some help — Донама 06:25, 9 May 2006 (UTC)
- I had a jab at it. Make corrections/adjustments where necessary.--cj | talk 09:06, 9 May 2006 (UTC)
Here's roughly what I meant as column separation of headings. It probably needs valign=top scattered through, and perhaps a little more vertical space, but it's past bedtime. By row separation, I meant something like how the old version has little headings. I'm also having trouble getting the columns and colspan attributes right tonight. Sorry. --Scott Davis Talk 15:38, 9 May 2006 (UTC)
Oops
editNow I feel silly - I read this talk page off my watchlist and stuffed about making the above table when I should have been sleeping, and didn't notice that CJ had already done it properly in the main template - sorry. The template looks better than I managed above. Thanks to you both. --Scott Davis Talk 23:11, 9 May 2006 (UTC)
- I think your above effort looks good too. After I started doing this I realised the new categorisation of LGAs was going to make it a whopper of a template. There might be a better way to do this still. — Донама 23:54, 9 May 2006 (UTC)
Geography
editIs Central SA the same as the Mid North? Further, I think "Southern & Hills" should be "Hills and Fleurieu".--cj | talk 08:40, 18 May 2006 (UTC)
- I used the words that were used on the lga.sa.gov.au website to categorise LGAs in South oz. Then I think you altered them slightly when you formatted the new table. Honestly whatever is intuitive. I moved the aboriginal and remote from the bottom becuase it just looks so obviously POV to list "remote and aboriginal" last regardless of where it fits in the alphabet. — Donama 08:44, 18 May 2006 (UTC)
Size
editThis template is absolutely massive. At WA we solved the problem by having a bunch of smaller templates for each region of the State. Not sure if this can be done in SA as there doesn't seem to be a concept of official regions, whereas WA has 9 clearly designated ones that are used by the LGA, tourism and commerce departments and are measurable (although not used directly) via the ABS. Is there any possible solution of this kind available to this template? Orderinchaos 07:55, 19 May 2007 (UTC)
- No. The regions are not official, and each government department has a slightly different set or different boundaries. For example Mallala can be in the mid north, or the Adelaide plains, or both. At least the template can be collapsed. --Scott Davis Talk 13:37, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
