Removal of the second parameter

edit

It has come to my attention that majority of the LRT Station articles are already following the "LRT Station" naming format. Hence therefore in my opinion rendering the second parameter useless as the first is clearly already a standard.Even the station used in the example for the second parameter,Universiti LRT Station, already uses the standard "LRT Station", instead of the "LRT station". Therefore the second parameter should be removed but the lrts template retained. PhilippineRevolution (talk) 13:59, 15 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

You are so obviously wrong. We must retain the option for lower case when "Station" is not a proper name and "station" is only a description. Secondarywaltz (talk) 16:24, 15 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
  1. “Majority” is not “all”;
  2. Common usage isn’t the same as an agreed-upon, documented standard;
  3. Universiti LRT Station is one of the approximately 90 LRT station articles that you renamed—where is the consensus for that? You should have discussed your intentions first at Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions (stations);
  4. This change is contrary to WP:LOWERCASE;
  5. Regardless of your personal opinion, the second parameter should be retained (and documented) for backward compatibility.

Agree with Secondarywaltz and Useddenim. There are a few issues here:
  1. This page is probably the least appropriate place to have this discussion, as I doubt anyone else will find it.
  2. Renaming all of the pages to be "LRT Station" and then changing this template with the claim that you observed all articles to have Station capitalized is wrong.
  3. When renaming lots of articles, there should be prior consensus. I can assure you that consensus has not been reached on capitalizing station, and consensus actually leans to lowercasing station.
  4. Even if there was consensus and most articles were using the capitalized Station, there is no reason to remove the option for lowercase from this template.
  5. Documentation pages should contain what the template can do, and documentation should not be changed until the functionality of the template is changed.
  6. Copy and paste moves should never be performed. I reverted 3 of these improper moves on this basis. If you want to proceed with the moves, go through the process at Wikipedia:Requested moves.

@Useddenim: @Secondarywaltz: I am just following the naming of majority of LRT Station articles. So if im going to your lowercase argument, then a second parameter should not be observed and move all to "LRT station" and other articles such as those with "MRT Station" would be moved into "MRT station" as they also observe the same naming format? On the other hand, if the "LRT station" parameter is for backwards compatibility purposes, the "Template:MRT Station" documentation should also have "MRT station" parameter also for the same reason of backwards compatibility.PhilippineRevolution (talk) 02:38, 16 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Lower case

edit

@Redrose64, Secondarywaltz, and Useddenim: All LRT stations are now named with lower case S. I've just created lower case equivalents for all "Foo LRT Station" redirects which are used in main or template namespace and lead to an article. I was tempted to edit {{SRTS}} to use lower case by adding |x to the end of every lrts call, but would it make more sense to simply remove the upper case functionality from here, and perhaps to rename the template itself as {{LRT station}}?

{{ETS LRT future}} links to several disambiguation pages. I think {{LRT Station}} needs another parameter to take a disambiguating qualifier. We could do this with parameter 3 like {{Station}}. Alternatively, after the previous change has settled in, we could have a bot purge the |x lower case flags then recycle parameter 2. I didn't create lower case redirects to dabs, as this might just compound the problem.

Implementation of any variant looks easy; the hard part is getting the specification right. Any thoughts please? Feel free to ping anyone else who might want to contribute. Certes (talk) 14:16, 28 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

Parameter 2 is used in 4 articles and 3 templates. Certes (talk) 22:58, 28 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

I have now removed the second parameter from all uses of this template and its incoming redirects. I still have a couple of concerns:

  1. Stations which don't exist get a redlink with titlecase Station: Narnia. We usually want to encourage any new article to have lowercase station in its title.
  2. The lack of an optional disambiguating qualifier means that links to dabs such as this can be fixed only by removing the template.

No article titles contain "LRT Station" (capital S) but 11 redirects such as 102 Street LRT Station do. None have incoming links from articles or templates. Apart from Gimhae International Airport LRT Station, the targets are Alberta tram stops under construction. Alberta LRT articles use Module:Adjacent stations rather than this template. Therefore I think we can simply remove support for uppercase Station and add an optional second parameter to accept a disambiguating qualifier: {{LRT Station|Main Street|Exampleville}} → Main Street LRT station (Exampleville). I plan to fix these problems in a compatible way if no one objects. Certes (talk) 14:16, 17 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
