Missing Something

edit
  Resolved

Am I missing something or is this not working. If I use this template the colors don't seem to apear

For Example: The code {{Legend | #2EFE9A | Cossatot}} {{Legend | #D0F5A9 | Double Eagle}} {{Legend | #F7FE2E | Long Horn}} Comes out

   Cossatot
   Double Eagle
   Long Horn

But the code: {{Legend inline | #2EFE9A | Cossatot}} {{Legend inline | #D0F5A9 | Double Eagle}} {{Legend inline | #F7FE2E | Long Horn}}
come out blank:

   Cossatot    Double Eagle    Long Horn

Am I using this wrong?--ARTEST4ECHO (talk/contribs) 16:44, 11 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

The color parameters cannot have spaces before or after. So {{Legend inline |#2EFE9A| Cossatot}} →    Cossatot is as you expect. This was solved in the {{Legend}} template, but not this one. -DePiep (talk) 17:04, 11 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
...I have changed this in the template. the spaces cause no problem any more. -DePiep (talk) 17:07, 11 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. I couldn't seem to figure it out.--ARTEST4ECHO (talk/contribs) 17:20, 11 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
Not your fault. Bad template code. -DePiep (talk) 21:18, 11 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
I have a favor to ask you. Would you be willing to look at the coding at [1]. I'm having the exact same issue, but can't seem to fix it.--ARTEST4ECHO (talk/contribs) 13:58, 13 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
The link has exactly the same code as this good one. I could not find a disfunction. Maybe you mean to point to a different template: {{legend}} over there. That has older, bad code. The difference is in the added {{trim}}: background-color:{{trim|{{{1|transparent}}}}};. So you can either add the trim manually or copy all current code from {{legend}} into that page. -DePiep (talk) 14:26, 13 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
It turns out that the {{trim|}} template was never created. So when I tried to implement it, it didn't work. Thanks for your help.--ARTEST4ECHO (talk/contribs) 14:50, 13 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
Hadn't even thought of that possibility... -DePiep (talk) 14:59, 13 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Font-size discussion

edit

I started a discussion about potential stylistic changes (namely, font-size) to this template at Template talk:Legend#Font size (time to paint a bikeshed), based on CSS changes that might be made in the Template:Legend/styles.css stylesheet. Please join the discussion there. {{Nihiltres |talk |edits}} 16:30, 30 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Long lines just keep going

edit

It tries too hard not to break the line, running outside the page margin, causing a horizontal scroll bar. Also the last 2 characters are inaccessible. (At least in Firefox.)

Here is an offending line:   Once upon a time, first, second, third, shrdlu shrdlu shrdlu shrdlu shrdlu shrdlu shrdlu shrdlu shrdlu shrdlu shrdlu shrdlu shrdlu shrdlu shrdlu shrdlu shrdlu shrdlu shrdlu shrdlu shrdlu shrdlu shrdlu shrdlu shrdlu shrdlu shrdlu shrdlu shrdlu shrdlu shrdlu shrdlu, penultimate, final.

Changing from {Legend-inline} to {Legend} lets it wrap (but the vertical spacing increases):

Once upon a time, first, second, third, shrdlu shrdlu shrdlu shrdlu shrdlu shrdlu shrdlu shrdlu shrdlu shrdlu shrdlu shrdlu shrdlu shrdlu shrdlu shrdlu shrdlu shrdlu shrdlu shrdlu shrdlu shrdlu shrdlu shrdlu shrdlu shrdlu shrdlu shrdlu shrdlu shrdlu shrdlu shrdlu, penultimate, final.

Add a "width" param for customizing the template's width. Qwerty284651 (talk) 01:17, 9 December 2022 (UTC) Qwerty284651 (talk) 01:17, 9 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Not done: please make your requested changes to the template's sandbox first; see WP:TESTCASES. It is unclear how a width parameter would work on an inline template. The template is as wide as its content. – Jonesey95 (talk) 04:58, 9 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
