trusted user

edit

How then does one become a "trusted user" as defined by the tag? Chris (クリス • フィッチュ) (talk) 15:28, 29 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

I believe this process is currently on halt, since proper file moves have been disabled due to some severe MediaWiki bugs. Once those are fixed and the functionality is reenabled, they will at first only work for admins. I don't know what the plans are for after the evaluation period, whether the file move functionality will then automatically be made available for all autoconfirmed users, or if it will need a discussion at WP:VPR. Probably the latter. Amalthea 15:40, 29 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Toollabs vs Toolserver

edit

Toolserver has been dead for a while now and the current Move2Commons tool is toollabs:commonshelper. Awybody willing to fix the template and remove the "bad links"? (tJosve05a (c) 03:58, 27 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

  Done (I hope that I didn't screw up something :) ). --Edgars2007 (talk/contribs) 10:03, 27 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

Show diff and check namespace

edit

Please update with the contents from Special:Redirect/revision/991958027. Example of how it'll look (substituted copy from a file page as the namespace check throws an error if transcluded here directly): Example broke after I actually moved the file, removing example.

This makes it easier to see what change is suggested. — Alexis Jazz (talk or ping me) 18:27, 2 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hold on, I'll add a namespace check too. — Alexis Jazz (talk or ping me) 18:28, 2 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
Okay done. — Alexis Jazz (talk or ping me) 18:55, 2 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
Testing. P.I. Ellsworth  ed. put'r there 09:26, 3 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
To editor Alexis Jazz: the namespace check renders the example in the documentation unreadable, and also messes with the test cases page, so that should be removed. And there is no reason for the includeonly tags that make the template disappear on its template page when the namespace check has been removed. When these changes have been made, this edit request can then be granted. P.I. Ellsworth  ed. put'r there 09:52, 3 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
To editor Paine Ellsworth: No problem. — Alexis Jazz (talk or ping me) 10:18, 3 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
To editor Alexis Jazz: yes, that works. I just tested the sandbox in preview at File:TheWildTheInnocent.jpg, and I noticed a slight change that might cause a little confusion. On the left side at the bottom, the old name is shown as File:TheWildTheInnocent.jpg, and the new name on the right appears as (new name).jpg (rather than File:(new name).jpg). It seems that "File:" should either be removed from the left side or added to the right side. What do you think? P.I. Ellsworth  ed. put'r there 10:36, 3 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
To editor Paine Ellsworth: I adjusted it to be the same as used in the "Perform this move" link, so the namespace is on both sides now. I also re-added the namespace check as a warning without consequence. The warning is only displayed if a parameter is present. (so it doesn't show on the template page) — Alexis Jazz (talk or ping me) 11:48, 3 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
To editor Alexis Jazz: awesome! and   done. Looks good! The warning of course doesn't appear on a File: page; however, it does appear on the /doc and /testcases template-namespace pages. P.I. Ellsworth  ed. put'r there 12:14, 3 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
To editor Paine Ellsworth: I noticed, I could add an exception for that if you think that's better, but it's also not wrong, is it? And users do mess this up sometimes, so maybe this example helps. — Alexis Jazz (talk or ping me) 12:21, 3 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
My choice would be to leave it as is, and if other editors chime in to change it, then we can revisit it. Good for now. P.I. Ellsworth  ed. put'r there 12:31, 3 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
To editor Paine Ellsworth: I agree. I updated the sandbox to exclude both File: and Template:, so if complaints arise it can be changed quickly. (excluding titles is also possible but more messy imho) — Alexis Jazz (talk or ping me) 12:36, 3 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Edit request

edit

Hey there! Not sure if this is an appropriate request, but I'll ask anyways. According to Wikipedia:Moving files to Commons, CommonsHelper is abandoned, poorly creates wikitext, and does not import the history of files. Compared to FileImporter, I don't see why this template should reccomend CommonsHelper as the ideal way to import files to Commons. I am extremely grateful to the creator of CommonsHelper for creating a tool that has been used by many to transfer files to Commons, but I think it's time to move on from linking this tool here. I've drafted changes to the template at User:EpicPupper/sandbox5, but I'd like someone to check it before just adding it, as I'm not sure if I broke something   Thank you 🐶EpicPupper (he/him | talk, FAQ, contribs) 18:38, 14 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

To editor EpicPupper:   done, and thank you very much for the update! P.I. Ellsworth  ed. put'r there 11:08, 15 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Please update from Template:Rename media/sandbox. This change gives the "wrong namespace" error priority over the "missing arguments" error. Because it doesn't matter how many arguments you're missing if you aren't even in the right namespace. — Alexis Jazz (talk or ping me) 11:41, 30 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Lol, just noticed it was my own fault (see above) as I tried to avoid having the namespace error show on the template page. While this generally doesn't cause any real problem (though giving the "wrong namespace" error priority is slightly better design), this turned out to confuse new users who google "How to change Wikipedia sandbox name", find this template and use the example from the "missing parameter" error to request moving their sandbox. I couldn't have foreseen that, but this edit request rectifies this. — Alexis Jazz (talk or ping me) 13:43, 30 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
Fixed it so documentation still works. (namespace error is suppressed when the template is used in Template: with an argument) Also fixed layout bug I introduced almost a year ago. (only appeared if the file was categorized in Category:Incomplete file renaming requests) — Alexis Jazz (talk or ping me) 14:43, 30 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Request by?

edit

Can someone template expert include into the template the following stuff: It has been suggested by (user who requests rename) that this file be renamed.... I feel this would be way better than the current text. It easily allows to look for the requester's contributions without having to go through the file history. I mean, it would be easier to find out whether the request is coming from an established user or not.... ─ The Aafī (talk) 14:27, 6 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
