Template talk:RetouchedPicture
Which pictures should be listed?
editAll pictures with modifications other than touch ups by the photographer, which only try to compensate for technical deficiencies of the capturing apparatus (camera, scanner).
Modifications exempt when sanctioned by the photographer include:
- whitebalance, contrast, saturation
- color curves (i.e. to lighten shadows)
- sharpening
- lens distortion, leaning, perspective correction
- cropping (as long as the main subject is not altered)
Discussion
editI think a category is unnecessary and any relevant information should just be put on the picture's page. If there is a category, the wording should be "altered", not just "digitally altered" because you can make some major changes without a computer. Also, cropping should not be counted as a retouch unless something significant was removed. -- Kjkolb 13:12, 12 January 2006 (UTC)
- Why no category, whats the harm? Also the discussion was aimed specifically at pictures digitally altered for wikipedia. For example a photo from the Stalin regime with Trotzky retouched out would be a document on its own and is not meant to be covered by this template. --Dschwen 13:53, 12 January 2006 (UTC)
- Kjkolb clearly misunderstood your wording above. His comment that cropping should not be included means he read your list as the list of modifications that must be declared, which is the opposite of your intention. I've had a go at rewording it. ~ Veledan • Talk 18:38, 9 February 2006 (UTC)
NFCC9 violations?
edit[1] JJMC89, where? I can hardly think of a situation where using an on-wiki non-free file as a source would be valid. I should be able to fix it, but it would help if you could give an example of the problem. — Alexis Jazz (talk or ping me) 12:53, 10 December 2021 (UTC)
- I checked Special:Contributions/JJMC89 bot and found nothing. Maybe it found something that you deleted but that would just prove my point that RetouchedPicture with filled out orig parameter is unlikely to be valid for a non-free file. I've also searched and found six files that could be affected: File:Gert van Rooyen victims.jpg, File:Dior and Jordan (Greyscale).jpg, File:Southend United.svg, File:CEA Technologies transparent logo.gif, File:Euphrates Volcano logo.png and File:Le Giornate del Cinema Muto - logo transparent.png. None of these link an existing file so I adjusted the template to not show the preview if the original doesn't exist, preventing the file from getting usage on itself. — Alexis Jazz (talk or ping me) 14:26, 10 December 2021 (UTC)
- @Alexis Jazz: File:Southend United.svg was the case that I saw. Thanks for the update. — JJMC89 (T·C) 01:29, 21 December 2021 (UTC)
