Acronyms

I intend to create a series of acronym versions of the current links used in this template. So they would appear as "SH" etc. in articles. I wanted to know if anyone had a preference over what they should written in code

{{rlp|F.B.}} Not appropriate for Lock
{{rlp|FBs}} 's' for short maybe
{{rlp|fb}} would using lower-case be an idea or would it be too confusing?

Yep, sure. The thing I have in mind most are these compact team sheets (such as at 2008 Rugby League World Cup#Final). The positions are each linked by a piped "FB", "WG", "CE" etc. Another place where I think it could be useful is in this section Huddersfield Giants#Players earning International Caps while at Huddersfield and others like it. Currently many of the players have "#5" etc. shown to represent their position; I think this should be changed to "WG" for example - it's not common for people to refer to every position by number. Something like that, yes. Adding "short=yes" is adding a bit more text than I thought, is there a shortcut way to write "short=yes"? because it's losing some of the benefit of a brief bit of code. Although it might not be best practice like your example, I was just going to create this:

{{rlp|FB}} to be: Fullback
{{rlp|fb}} to be: FB or
{{rlp|FB.}} to be: FB or
{{rlp|FBs}} to be: FB

I don't know how to create that sort of syntax to find a specific 's' or '.' at the end to make it in shorten version, although I don't like the lower case version as it could be easily mixed up.  The Windler talk  01:39, 26 July 2009 (UTC)

OK, I'm not sure either so I propose to start creating the pages needed using '.' on the end. I agree that lower case would be confusing. I'll begin creating Template:Rlp/LF., Template:Rlp/LK. etc. later. If we find out in the future how to do this a better way then it can be changed. LunarLander // talk // 15:50, 27 July 2009 (UTC)

Additional words

I find the template very useful, but would it be possible to add the word forward into the template for say second-row in the form of rlp|srf, giving the outcome of second-row forward. MOS:CAPS violation

Use of this template generally violates MOS:CAPS by inserting the words in capitalized form where these common noun phrases shouldn't be capitalized. I came across an example of this where the template is used at Category:Rugby league props. Largoplazo (talk) 14:18, 4 May 2018 (UTC)

Largoplazo, there's a lowercase option; the difference between {{rlp|FB}}/{{rlp|fb}} is Fullback/fullback. If there are instances where it shouldn't be in caps, just change the case of the param. Primefac (talk) 14:34, 4 May 2018 (UTC)
