This template is currently a member of Category:Rail succession templates, but that category has been redirected to Category:Rail transport succession templates, so the link should be updated. --Russ (talk) 20:06, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

Redirect to {{s-start}}. I don't know why this template exists, but it's sometimes fucking things up, like here. — Lfdder (talk) 17:12, 26 September 2013 (UTC)
- Not done. It seems like a bad idea to change a template used by 13,000 articles on the basis that it (apparently) conflicts in some way with {{rail line}}. I'm trying to remember why I created it in 2007, and it could be that it is no longer necessary. Mackensen (talk) 18:25, 26 September 2013 (UTC)
- There appears to be relevant discussion at Template talk:Rail line#Border widths about the source of the styling issue. Mackensen (talk) 18:27, 26 September 2013 (UTC)
Regardless of whether it conflicts, is this template needed? S-start tables look exactly the same to me. — Lfdder (talk) 18:44, 26 September 2013 (UTC)
- Found it; see [1]. The change was prompted by developments with certain templates on the Australian articles. I think that's where nocollapse comes into play. Mackensen (talk) 18:53, 26 September 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for digging that up. Is it still needed? Boxes in Category:RTA Rapid Transit stations articles don't have coloured borders anymore (nor should they, if we're honest). — Lfdder (talk) 20:15, 26 September 2013 (UTC)
Yes, we still need it, but only in certain cases. Here's an example from Town Hall railway station:
{{s-start}} {{s-rail|title=Sydney Trains}} {{s-line|system=Sydney Trains|line=Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra|previous=Central|next=Martin Place}} {{s-line|system=Sydney Trains|line=Airport and East Hills|previous=Central|next=Wynyard}} {{s-line|system=Sydney Trains|line=BankstownCircle|previous=Central|next=Wynyard}} {{s-line|system=Sydney Trains|line=SouthCircle|previous=Central|next=Wynyard}} {{s-line|system=CityRail|line=Inner West and South||previous=Central|next=Wynyard}} {{s-line|system=Sydney Trains|line=West North Shore|previous=Central|next=Wynyard}} {{s-line|system=Sydney Trains|line=Northern|previous=Central|next=Wynyard|type2=ReverseNorth}} {{s-end}} {{s-rail-start}} {{s-rail|title=Sydney Trains}} {{s-line|system=Sydney Trains|line=Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra|previous=Central|next=Martin Place}} {{s-line|system=Sydney Trains|line=Airport and East Hills|previous=Central|next=Wynyard}} {{s-line|system=Sydney Trains|line=BankstownCircle|previous=Central|next=Wynyard}} {{s-line|system=Sydney Trains|line=SouthCircle|previous=Central|next=Wynyard}} {{s-line|system=CityRail|line=Inner West and South||previous=Central|next=Wynyard}} {{s-line|system=Sydney Trains|line=West North Shore|previous=Central|next=Wynyard}} {{s-line|system=Sydney Trains|line=Northern|previous=Central|next=Wynyard|type2=ReverseNorth}} {{s-end}}
In the second example, which uses {{s-rail-start}}, the color borders are preserved. If you just use {{s-start}} the top box's bottom edge overlaps. The Australian editors were most insistent in keeping this style of display. Admittedly that was six years ago and consensus can change. Otherwise though I think s-start is just as good as s-rail-start, and it's certainly not required for use with s-rail/s-line. Mackensen (talk) 21:10, 26 September 2013 (UTC)
- I like the first one better, personally. — Lfdder (talk) 21:19, 26 September 2013 (UTC)

Please remove the text border-collapse: separate;
and the text cellspacing="0" cellpadding="-1"
. This will affect rendering slightly in Vector and Minerva but will not have any adverse effects (the table will be slightly narrower), and will fix the rendering in Timeless (currently there's a thick white margin). Jc86035's alternate account (talk) 12:50, 11 May 2018 (UTC)
