New layout

edit

I have redesigned this template at User:Chuq/Sandbox/Sonnets. The new layout makes the link to Shakespeare's sonnets larger - as I noticed some users were adding an unnecessary "See also" link to the article when the link was in the template on the following line - and improves the layout by having a grid of numbers rather than just a list of them. There are also small links to view/discuss/edit the template in the top right (v-d-e). I didn't overwrite the live template with the new design as I'm not really a regular editor of these pages and didn't want to step on peoples toes, but if there are no major complaints in the next day or so I will update it! -- Chuq (talk) 14:00, 22 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Is there any way to center the numbers? Wrad 14:42, 22 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

You mean in the last row? I have modified the template to centre them, have a look now. -- Chuq (talk) 22:11, 22 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

That's much better. I would also support less width and more height, if that makes sense. There's got to be a nice medium between the two. Not necessarily a square, but . . . Wrad 22:22, 22 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Alternate version now up! -- Chuq (talk) 23:41, 22 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
No complaints, so I'll change it later on today. -- Chuq (talk) 00:59, 28 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Well, it's been a long "day", but no further issues have been raised so the template is now changed. -- Chuq (talk) 07:14, 22 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Wouldn't it be easier if there was a progression with previous and next buttons?

How about a link to wikisource? There's a page for every sonnet. So a link like this under all other sonnets: all sonnets. - Florrat 21:52, 1 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Use of the template in the 1609 in poetry article

edit

I didn't know how to do this in any other way, so I cut and pasted the template into 1609 in poetry, a page that attempts to provide as many links as possible to works of poetry published that year. If there's a better way of reproducing the template there, please make the change. -- Reconsideration (talk) 20:23, 18 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

typo in source of sonnet text

edit

In Sonnet 118 the 4th line is (see https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Sonnet_118_(Shakespeare), among other sources)

Even so, being full of your ne'er-cloying sweetness

--- whatever text this template is drawing on has "or" where "of" should be.

I'd fix it myself but I haven't been able to figure out how, with a little noodling. So, how would I/someone?

The sources I have to hand (and Wikipedia itself) consistently state that the "Procreation" and "Rival Poet" sections are limited (Sonnets 1-17, and 78-86, respectively), and do not embrace all the "Fair Youth" series. I've updated the template to reflect this. There are other ways this might be formatted, but we should not clump 1-77 and 78-126 all together under these 2 rubrics.
