Kedar

edit

Does anyone think that we should add Qedar (Kedar), as mentioned in the Old Testament (to show Muhammad's descendancy). ~ AdvertAdam talk 02:34, 16 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

The purpose of this template is to show Muhammad's descent from prominent prophets of Islam. Kedar doesn't seem to be one of them. ~Amatulić (talk) 03:41, 16 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Islamic view of Ishmael

edit

Since there is a new article Islamic view of Ishmael, why not change the Ishmael link in the family tree to the new Islamic Ishmael article? Raymond Phoenix (talk) 07:11, 13 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Removal of colors and notable members of lineage

edit

@Wiqi55: I can't say it was an improvement to remove Abdulmuttalib from the tree and also removing the colors to indicate prominence. You removed Adbulmuttalib because he's "not a prophet" — but then neither is Mary, as far as I can determine, and she's still in the figure. Also, the colors were intended to designate a main line of "prominent" prophets, which you referred to as "arbitrary". I have no real opinion on that because I don't know how prominence is determined. Maybe Ishmael and Isaac should also be colored in? There should be a way to distinguish prophets from non-prophets in the lineage.

However, in my view, the tree should be expanded to include other notable figures in Islam who they share a lineage with Muhammad, with the nabi colored in appropriately. ~Anachronist (talk) 07:22, 19 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

I'd say these are the most important genealogical lines among the Islamic prophets. Abdulmuttalib is nowhere as prominent as the other figures, not even mentioned in the Qur'an. He is a grandfather of a prophet, but that connection is neither notable nor specific to Islamic beliefs. By contrast, Mary is necessary for the lineage of Jesus. The story of her virgin birth is an important Islamic claim. I didn't mean to imply she was a prophet, although she did receive revelation and has been considered as one. Perhaps we should consider changing prophets to Quranic/Islamic figures, although I don't see it as necessary. Wiqi(55) 10:05, 19 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
