Documentation needed

edit

This template needs documentation on how to use the parameters. I just had to use it blank and explain the period in separate text afterwards, because it did not display the period of the block. Also, what is the sig parameter for?

If this template is obsolete, then let's redirect it. Template:Uw-sockmasterproven redirects here which is how I found it. – Fayenatic London 18:39, 3 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

I don't see any actual uses of this template, if you want to, you can put it up for deletion at TfD. LegoKontribsTalkM 19:44, 3 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
It's always subst'ed, so how would you look? I used it today, but a search does not find that. – Fayenatic London 21:07, 3 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

It still does not work. I just used it again and it is as broken as before. The parameters {{subst:SockmasterProven | period =3 months | evidence =[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:WhatLinksHere/Kirstie_Wheeler] | sig =yes }}

produce

I.e. "indefinitely", no link to evidence and no sig.

Leave out the period and we have {{subst:SockmasterProven | evidence =[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:WhatLinksHere/Kirstie_Wheeler] | sig =yes }}

producing

- I.e with "temporarily" but still omiiting the evidence and now appending "sig=yes" instead of signing. – Fayenatic London 21:06, 26 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

This template reproduces Template:SockBlock with a "masterblock=yes" parameter, but there seems to be some subtle issue with handing over template parameters from SockmasterProven to SockBlock. I haven't managed to fix it and would suggest using SockBlock instead. Huon (talk) 22:57, 26 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
IMHO, SockBlock is only appropriate for the puppets, not the master. I think that was the main reason for not deleting it. Is there a place where we can list this for parsing experts to take a look? – Fayenatic London 23:45, 26 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
If you don't want the template to be SockBlock-based, you'll have to revert to a pre-2011 version. I would say the fact that it probably was broken for the past three years without complaints is a strong indication that it's obsolete. Anyway, I have left a note at WT:WikiProject Templates. Can you add the |notalk= parameter and update the documentation? Thanks. 107.77.169.51 (talk) 17:13, 18 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
  Not done for now: please establish a consensus for this alteration before using the {{edit semi-protected}} template. Templates are complex, and in the case of a much used one like this I would suggest you try out the exact edit on the sandbox and copy the correct code here before making a request (in addition to making sure there is consensus for such an addition).
