Added offsettop

edit

Sorry if I screwed anyone up by adding the line {{#if:{{{offsettop|}}}|{{{offsettop}}}|-3}}px in place of the -3px in the second div set. I was trying to move it down a little, but was having trouble making it do it in the first div using {{Statustop|offset="80px; top:3px"}} I figured it would not be a big deal, and that it would be better to ask forgiveness than permission. Again, sorry if it messed up anything, but it doesn't look like it did...

Hrmm... I do think an indef block is in order............ j/k, no worries. Thanks for the improvement. –xeno (talk) 23:18, 25 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
You're welcome... but you might (or not) put it in the documentation (unless you want me to).
Ajl772 (talk) 23:22, 25 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
already done =) –xeno (talk) 23:22, 25 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
Shoot... I was too slow... I guess that's what happens when one is on a (slower) connection. (I'm using a public computer now, which is faster than my dial-up at home, but it's not a T3 or whatever.)

Refresh

edit

I've been using the template for a couple weeks and I've noticed that the template wont refresh unless I edit the page. So I took the liberty to create my own modified version of the template [here], where I added a small "R" next to the template at the top where I can click to refresh the status. What do you think? --Kraftlos (Talk | Contrib) 05:53, 27 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

RM blink?

edit

The blink element is evil. Seriously, the fact that we're using it is bad, bad like a 14 year-old girl's MySpace. Can we please not use it, or at least add a piped option to not use blink? I would really appreciated it, Steven Walling (talk) 02:37, 25 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Allow use of Statuses used by Template:UserStatus?

edit

I like the way Template:Statustop is set up, but I like the # of options Template:UserStatus has. Can someone experienced code in the extra options Template:UserStatus has? Hmmwhatsthisdo (talk) 02:22, 15 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

I actually just finished making a modification that does just this. Install Template:UserStatus like always, but instead of the usual Qui script, use mine. Add this to the Custom JS of whatever theme you're using.

importScript('User:Neko-chan/QuiforUS.js');

neko-chan :3 (talk) 03:30, 14 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

I actually use User:Xenocidic/statusChanger2.js. Besides, wouldn't this be something in the template? Hmmwhatsthisdo (talk) 01:07, 17 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Update Category to Wikipedians Online

edit

I have created a new category for my own Status Template, [[Category:Wikipedians Online]] I think this would be a great addition to yours too. This way we can go on and see a list of people to meet who are online right now. Possibly make it a variable on yours such as public=yes.

:) Happy coding  Travis "TeamColtra" McCrea - (T)(C) 09:15, 27 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

And voila, the category was deleted under G4 by VegaDark (talk · contribs). Can I ask a user who won't screw things up like I have the potential to do and remove Category:Wikipedians online from this template? — ξxplicit 20:32, 17 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
For the record, the original deletion discussion was at Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/User/Archive/October_2007#Category:Wikipedians_who_are_currently_online. – Fayenatic London 13:16, 30 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

User:Xenocidic/statusChanger2.js

edit

What does User:Xenocidic/statusChanger2.js actually do? (I am a little stupid sometimes). George8211 (talk | mail) 13:36, 11 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

It just adds a set of buttons to your personal links to help you change your status easily. It works with this template (statustop) to display on your user page(s) whether you're online, offline, busy or sleeping. When you click a button it automatically updates your status. Sleep=CustomStatus = Unknown?

edit

Whenever I try to make my status custom by using the sleep= parameter, it always comes back as unknown, I've even tried doing custom= to check if it's been changed and I'm still unable to make it work. Is anyone else experiencing this issue? --I am Kethrus Talk to me! 15:10, 11 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Template display

edit

@Huon: Hi, I noticed that (apparently), after you edited this template, I can no longer maintain my userbox and the {{statustop}} template at the same time anymore because it pushes my userbox to the left. I don't think this was a problem before your change. See Special:PermaLink/661353423. I can't guarantee that your edit is responsible, but I can't think of why else this problem is occurring. Dustin (talk) 21:27, 11 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

@Dustin V. S.: For all I can tell, before my change the statustop template wasn't displayed at all. I have created a copy of the old code at Template:Statustop/sandbox; you can try and use that, but I'd be rather surprised if that code actually produced a visible effect. If it does and the display problem you point out doesn't occur, we can switch the main template back to the old version of the code. Huon (talk) 21:39, 11 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Documentation and display

edit

@Ronhjones: and @Huon:, about a year ago, part of the documentation was stricken, but it seems that the User:Xenocidic/statusChanger2.js script is working fine. Was it stricken in error, or is something else going on? As a separate issue, on Simple English Wikipedia, the status indicator appears alongside any top icons that may be present, but here, it appears farther down the page, even when the offsettop parameter has not been set. The version at Simple was imported there in 2010 and has been edited exactly two times since then, so I suspect that it's function is more like what was intended originally. But that begs the question as to why the indicator was moved off of the top line, since this template is called Statustop and not Statussomeplace-in-the-middle! Etamni | ✉   09:22, 27 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

@Etamni: I cannot comment on the documentation; my change was unrelated to the documentation changes preceding it by a couple of months. I just tested a preview of the Simple template code on a user page that uses this one and saw nothing. Not sure why; if you can get it to display the status among the topicons you're welcome to do so. Huon (talk) 11:55, 27 December 2015 (UTC)Reply
@Huon: Thanks for getting back to me. I had pinged you on this because you were a recent editor here and a quick check showed you were still active (which, sadly, is not the case for many who have contributed in the past). I've copied the two versions of the template into separate notepad windows and compared them side-by-side. Mostly they are the same, but below, I'm going to copy the parts that have some significant differences; perhaps someone with more template experience than I have can figure out why they work different. The first one is from this project, English Wikipedia, while the second is from Simple English Wikipedia.
<div style="right:{{#if:{{{offset|}}}|{{{offset}}}|10}}px; display:none; margin-top:-10px;" class="metadata topicon"><div style="border: 0px solid black; background: transparent; float: right; position: relative; top:{{#if:{{{offsettop|}}}|{{{offsettop}}}|-3}}px; padding: 5px">
And the second....
<div style="right:{{#if:{{{offset|}}}|{{{offset}}}|10}}px; margin-top:-10px;" class="metadata topicon" id="status-top"><div style="border: 0px solid black; background: transparent; float: right; position: relative; top:{{#if:{{{offsettop|}}}|{{{offsettop}}}|-3}}px; padding: 5px">
In the first (EnWiki version), you can see the code display:none; while the second (Simple version) has id="status-top". The only other difference I was able to find was some code that apparently turns on blinking text. I really don't know what either bit of code is supposed to do in this template, so it is hard to determine how or if this is the difference, or if something is turned on or off at a more basic level for one of the Wikipedias but not the other.
The other part of my comment/question involved the strikethrough of the references to the js code that is supposed to simplify turning one's status from one setting to another. I hadn't seen the strikethrough when I installed it, and just like the honeybee that isn't supposed to be able to fly, it worked fine for me. (OS is Win 10; browser is Chrome). Etamni | ✉   13:40, 27 December 2015 (UTC)Reply
There may be differences in the MediaWiki configuration that make the English and the Simple English Wikipedia behave differently with the same template code. As I said, I copy-pasted the entire Simple code into this template and tried to preview it on one of the English Wikipedia user pages that use this template; there the Simple Wikipedia code produced no visible effect at all. There's still a copy at Template:Statustop/sandbox; you are welcome to modify that and find a working version that displays the status among the topicons; if you can do that, we can modify the "live" template to duplicate that.
If you could confirm that the struck-through documentation text still is correct, you're welcome to remove the strikethrough - maybe add the browser/os configuration with which you tested it? I do not use this template myself, nor the JavaScript code; thus I cannot comment on what works or what doesn't work in that regard. Huon (talk) 13:55, 27 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Status not updating anymore.

edit

It's not updating the status on my userpages anymore. I don't know if it has to do with this template or the User:Enterprisey/StatusChanger script. I tried bypassing the browser cache and clearing browser data to no avail. Huggums537 (talk) 23:04, 13 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Mobile display

edit

To Xeno, or anyone else interested:
Currently, I cannot get this template to display in mobile view. In testing, I can manually add <span class="blink" style="color:red;">Sleeping</span> [[File:Nuvola apps krec.svg|20px]] to a userpage, and it will display... but it won't blink. I have to add <templatestyles src="User OS:Dos/style.css"/> to the same userpage prior to the class span if I want both the status and the blinking effect to be displayed in mobile view. Even though this template calls these already, they aren't displaying in mobile view using the template in its current form.

So, this template can work in mobile view if one manually changes their status on their userpage, but not by transcluding {{Statustop|offline}}. My assumption is that reading the user's status using the vector script won't work in mobile view, but I don't have a means to test it at this time. For comparison, both {{UserStatus|demo=in}} and {{UserStatusShort|demo=in}} appear to function nominally in mobile view.

I don't actually have a mobile device, but I can simulate one using the Mobile view link at the very bottom of any Wikipedia page, or adding .m between the en and .wikipedia.org in the browser's address bar. — CJDOS, Sheridan, OR (talk) 21:38, 9 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Update: I've performed a test in which I partially coded Template:Statustop on my user page manually. In both Mobile view and standard view (15.5 inch PC display), the "Offline" status appears in the top icon bar, right aligned, and blinks. The first test edit special:diff/1049243131 is the proof of concept, the second edit special:diff/1049243131 moves the icon into the top icon bar. — CJDOS, Sheridan, OR (talk) 18:22, 10 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
