Periodisation
editBefore 2014, the Star Wars Expanded Universe maintained the following periodisation:
- Before the Republic (30,000–5000 BBY)
- Old Republic (5000–100 BBY)
- Rise of the Empire (100–1 BBY)
- Rebellion (0–4 ABY)
- New Republic (5–24 ABY)
- New Jedi Order (25–36 ABY)
- Legacy (40–140 ABY)

For sake of overview, I've not extended the timeline all the way up to 4000 BBY to include KOTOR in its proper place. People will have to understand these video game stories are set loooong before the films. Anyone is free to further improve and expand this template; it was only meant as an initial sketch of the Star Wars timeline before 2014. Nederlandse Leeuw (talk) 19:12, 11 April 2021 (UTC)
July 2021 expansion
editHi @LegoK9:, I mostly appreciate many of your recent edits. I especially thank you for the addition of an extra bar for 5000 to 1000 BBY. But I've got some questions and objections regarding your other edits, primarily this one. What are "the official "publishing eras"" you refer to? Why have you removed any mention of states such as the Galactic Empire, the Imperial Remnant, and the Galactic Federation of Free Alliances, and events such as the Clone Wars, the Galactic Civil War (although I guess you could equate that with 'Rebellion'), and the Yuuzhan Vong War? I think these would really help people to understand the overall legendary context. Also, why have you removed the Republic Commando book series? Greetings, Nederlandse Leeuw (talk) 10:59, 8 July 2021 (UTC)
- @Nederlandse Leeuw: The official publishing eras for Legends were last updated in 2015. (They are roughly what you mentioned in your post back in April.) See the information I added to this article for more. The canon timeline uses the canon publishing eras, so it makes sense for the Legends timeline to use the Legends publishing eras. I will consider reworking the states and events you mentioned.
- The Republic Commando book series was causing rendering problems with the text and I couldn't fix it without removing it. LegoK9 (talk)
