Pro-tempore

edit

I was WP:BOLD and removed Patrick McHenry from the navbox template. Speakers' pro-tempore are not listed among Speakers of the House by the U.S. Congress, and there have been others before McHenry, when a speaker has died in office or resigned from the office during a congressional term. This being the case, we should not list McHenry (especially him only). It is original research and improperly elevates his position to a status it does not have (also, perhaps, Recentism). I would argue that McHenry should be listed in the Navbox as a speaker pro tempore. You are wrong when you say there have been others before McHenry; there have not been, at least not in this capacity. While there have been previous intra-term vacancies in the speakership before 2023, the House was no in session during those vacancies. When the House reconvinced following the death or resignation of the previous speaker, they've always immediately elected another, therefore there were no previous speakers pro tempore who presided over an intra-term vacancy in the speakership the way McHenry is currently doing. Agreed. It's not bloat or outrageous: I'm readding with italics and "pro-tempore". ―Justin (koavf)TCM 15:47, 28 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
Removed, it is inaccurate to list him among speakers of the House as he was not one. Drdpw (talk) 17:04, 28 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
No one said he was one: he is the only Speaker pro tempore. ―Justin (koavf)TCM 17:25, 28 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
The scope of this navbox is speakers of the house and he was not. Drdpw (talk) 17:28, 28 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
The scope also includes topics related to the Speaker such as the main article and a list article. If you are insistent on edit-warring, we should get someone to give another opinion. Are you going to just keep on reverting prior to posting to talk or seeking consensus again? ―Justin (koavf)TCM 17:30, 28 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

A broader discussion about the scope of this navbox is an excellent idea. Drdpw (talk) 18:14, 28 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Scope

edit

The scope of this navbox should include acting speakers, per Koavf. They should be designated as acting, per Koavf. As noted by Cwagungood, Drdpw's points are incorrect or irrelevant. McHenry is the first. It's not a matter of recentism; I would argue the same if the only acting speaker had been in 1823 instead of 2023. It is not Original Research, it's simply a fact that McHenry was acting speaker for 22 days. —Anomalocaris (talk) 23:31, 6 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

No, it is a simple fact that McHenry was not Speaker of the House, nor was he Acting Speaker. He simply acted under House rules as temporary speaker. He did not hold the office. Including McHenry in this navbox gives him a status that the House (and the Constitution) does not. Drdpw (talk) 13:18, 7 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
