Usage in draftspace?

edit

I see many drafts with this template on it, but since the wording only says "article" and not draft, should we make it so that the word "article" changes to "draft" if it's in the draftspace? Millows! | 🪧 15:35, 12 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Change {{{1|article}}} to {{{1|NAMESPACE}}} for ease of use on drafts. Mach61 (talk) 02:19, 20 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Not done: please make your requested changes to the template's sandbox first; see WP:TESTCASES. I don't think the suggested code change would work. – Jonesey95 (talk) 21:46, 21 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Template pages tagged are not added to categories

edit

A template like Template:Owen family tree is tagged as unreferenced, but the page is not added to any category. Can this be fixed? I looked around but couldn't see where its stopping template pages. Gonnym (talk) 17:45, 4 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

This is by design. Template:Unreferenced is built around Template:Ambox, which only categorses for pages in mainspace. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 22:21, 4 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
So the only solution is create an exact duplicate for the sole purpose of having it work with templates, which hold content in mainspace? Gonnym (talk) 07:01, 5 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Making the "section" parameter change categorization?

edit

While the proper template to use is {{unreferenced section}}, I've seen more than once {{unreferenced|section}} being used, and I've probably been guilty of it in the past myself. The issue is that it will still add the article in a subcategory of Category:Articles lacking sources, rather than of Category:Articles needing additional references. Would it be possible to change the template so that having "section" (or "paragraph", "subsection", or other values thereof) as the first parameter changes the category in which the article gets sorted? Even if the parameter is not recommended for use anymore, it could still be good to have articles using that legacy feature categorized correctly.
