Template not assessing Portal class

edit

{{editprotected}}

Even though there is a Category:Portal-class Brazil pages, this template is placing the portal talk page into Category:Unassessed Brazil articles. Any way to fix this w/o upgrading to WPBM? or do we need to set that up? --Funandtrvl (talk) 18:40, 14 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

The editprotected request is   Not done for now; please provide the exact code that needs to be changed. Might I recommend converting the banner to use {{WikiProjectBannerMeta}} if possible? That should fix any problems and also simplify the code, although there could be something in the current banner which can't be converted.
Perhaps you could ask about this on the project's talk page to see if anyone there is a good template coder and could figure the problem out? –Drilnoth (TCL) 19:02, 14 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
I'll build a WPBM version in the sandbox. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 19:26, 14 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
Awesome!! Thanks for building the WPBM version, you're pretty quick!! :) --Funandtrvl (talk) 19:57, 14 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. I am suggesting that the following features are not being used and suggesting that they not be supported:
  • orphan parameter: category not created or populated
  • portal parameter: category not created or populated
  • Collaboration parameters: last edit in 2007
Does that sound reasonable? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 20:06, 14 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
I would keep the portal category, orphan not needed (in fact, I haven't seen this used at all?) I'm currently renaming/redirecting the categories that end in "pages" to "articles", to be consistent. Otherwise, it's good to go. --Funandtrvl (talk) 20:24, 14 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
Implemented. Well done creating all the categories. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 20:38, 14 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
Thank you very much for all your help and have a great day!! --Funandtrvl (talk) 20:46, 14 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

{{editprotected}}

One question- on Template:WikiProject South America and Template:WikiProject Antarctica, they're not yet updated to WPBM, so the task forces are putting the talk pages into Category:WikiProject Brazil articles, instead of sorting them into the more specific ones. Can you help us with that? Thanks! --Funandtrvl (talk) 21:24, 14 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
Could you add the category for Category:Brazil articles with comments? --Funandtrvl (talk) 22:12, 14 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
  Done. Could you create the category? I'm not going to have time to do South America or Antarctica today, but if you want to make a start in their sandboxes that would be great! — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 22:18, 14 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Rename

edit

{{Editprotected}} It'd be good to rename the banner to {{WikiProject Brazil}}. SkyBonTalk\Contributions 21:10, 9 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Have you discussed this with the WikiProject? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 22:02, 9 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
  Not done: This is analogous to your similar request at {{WPBiography}}, and I am not doing this one for the same reason as there. Rambo's Revenge (talk) 23:08, 9 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
I renamed it to align it with the vast majority of country projects. -- Magioladitis (talk) 11:14, 14 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Portal Image

Changes

edit

A change has been made at Template:WikiProject Brazil/sandbox, plus the |NOTE_2_CAT= parameter has replaced by Wikipedia requested photographs in Brazil, along with the class subpage to enable class mask and |MAIN_CAT=WikiProject Brazil articles script added with the merge parameter removed, since the category has been deleted. It is request if you could please make changes that I've made from the sandbox myself. Thank for your time. JJ98 (Talk) 11:00, 30 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Template-protected edit request on 20 June 2015

edit

Please add these four attribute items to this template:

I am working through the backlog of unassessed articles in WikiProject Brazil and have already begun using the four tags above. In addition, I will need to the use of these tags to auto generate the categories:

  • Category:Arts in Brazil task force articles
  • Category:Geography of Brazil task force articles
  • Category:History of Brazil task force articles
  • Category:Sports in Brazil task force articles

Thank you. — giso6150 (talk) 18:12, 20 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

@Giso6150:   Question: I've made these changes to the sandbox. There are no images, because you didn't suggest any. Will it do as it is? --Redrose64 (talk) 18:54, 20 June 2015 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for the speedy reply. I will provide those images shortly… giso6150 (talk) 19:04, 20 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

@Redrose64: If it isn’t too late to add these four images, I would really appreciate your help:

Do I need to do anything else for these changes to be finished; e.g., with the Categories? —giso6150 (talk) 19:25, 20 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

I've added the images to the sandbox. If you're happy I can put the revisions into the live template. The four categories appear to have been created. --Redrose64 (talk) 19:37, 20 June 2015 (UTC)Reply
Everything looks great and can be moved into the live template. I created the categories, although I am not sure what will become of the articles that I have already added those attributes to. If a talk page already had `sports=yes' before these changes, do those show up once you move the changes out of the sandbox? If not, I would love it if you could shed some light on that for me. Sorry for my ignorance—this is all unchartered territory for me. Thanks again! —giso6150 (talk) 19:51, 20 June 2015 (UTC)Reply
@Giso6150: It's live now. If you already added |sports=yes etc. that doesn't matter, they'll be picked up as the template works its way through the job queue.
One thing: the four new categories don't seem to be members of any other categories. If you look at the task force cats for other WikiProjects, you'll see that they're always a subcategory of something. For example, you might like to make Category:Arts in Brazil task force articles a subcat of both Category:WikiProject Brazil articles and Category:WikiProject Arts articles. --Redrose64 (talk) 20:55, 20 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Three additional task force parameters

edit

Please edit the template to include three new task forces:

I have added the category pages and (tried to update) the documentation section of the template page (but I was not able to finish this request fast enough and @Redrose64: reverted those changes). The images (icons) for the template are:

I apologize if I am doing this out of order. Please let me know about any next steps or how I could do this better, if I need to make any more requests on behalf of WikiProject Brazil in the future. Thanks! giso6150 (talk) 18:18, 16 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

I just tried to help out by adding the changes to the sandbox, but it will only display five of the seven task forces using the TF_1... templates. giso6150 (talk) 18:42, 16 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
@Giso6150: I partially reverted you because the documentation is supposed to follow the template. Since the template wasn't set up to recognise |edu= |gov= or |transport= it was misleading for them to be left in the documentation. There was no mention of them on this page; I saw that you had proposed them at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Brazil#New task forces but nobody else had responded. As you may recall from the thread above, the documentation was the last item to be updated - not the first.
Anyway, the basic {{WPBannerMeta}} template only allows five task forces. To use more, you need to use the "hooks" technique, see Template:WPBannerMeta/hooks/taskforces, by means of which a theoretically-infinite number of taskforces may be added, in groups of up to ten each. It's done like this. --Redrose64 (talk) 19:17, 16 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
Thanks again for the clarification and all your help with this. I am definitely learning a lot… even if it does take me a couple of times for it to sink in! The sandbox looks like it is ready to go, if you could move that over, please. Then I can add back that little bit of documentation text that I jumped the gun on earlier. Thanks! giso6150 (talk) 20:23, 16 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
OK,   Done --Redrose64 (talk) 15:53, 17 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

Assessment categories added for Task Forces

edit

Assessment categories have been created for all of the recently added task forces. I have added the following code to each of the seven task forces in the sandbox:

|TF_1_QUALITY = yes
|tf 1 importance = {{#ifeq:{{lc:{{{Arts|{{{arts|}}}}}}}}|yes||{{{Arts|{{{arts|}}}}}}}}}
|TF_1_ASSESSMENT_CAT = arts in Brazil articles

Please move these changes to the live template or let me know what still needs to be done. Thanks. giso6150 (talk) 02:33, 9 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Looks good. Bear in mind you have some additional "quality" classes like book and draft, which may be missing from your new categories — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 09:45, 9 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
@Giso6150: The code looks OK for quality ratings, but not for importance ratings, where it looks very wrong. Where was this tested? Since it went live, is there anywhere that it is working correctly for importance ratings? --Redrose64 (talk) 10:06, 9 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
Martin, thank you for the heads up about the book and draft classes, I noticed that halfway into the process of creating the categories. I can go back and add those with no problem.
Redrose64, for the |tf 1 importance code, I looked at a bunch of other WikiProjects that have assessment by importance and ended up basing the code on the same line in the {{Football}} template, since that seems to work correctly in the way that I was hoping this would. Since changes in the sandbox don’t actually populate the new assessment categories, I was not (am not) aware of any way to truly test this. I cannot find any assessment category where the importance ratings are working correctly, unfortunately. The example code on the WPBannerMeta page seemed to be for tagging only the importance for a specifictaskforce=yes. No articles have been tagged geography-importance=yes (or the like) and there is no indication that we need this level of nuance (or nuisance). WPFootball articles tagged with importance=low “trickle down” to the task force level for assessment—any idea why this wouldn’t be working here? I admit that the #ifeq documentation left me scratching my head.
As I was typing this, the indexing was adding more articles to these categories, but importance seems to still be only ??? or NA. giso6150 (talk) 13:39, 9 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
{{Football}} is a bit of a strange one, it's not a good idea to copy code from WikiProject banners with non-standard implementations, especially when it appears that you only copied part of the necessary code. But let's not worry about how to do it at this stage, let's first look at what you want to achieve. There are, as you know, seven taskforces on this banner. Each one can be set to have an importance rating, and so there are four possibilities for each one:
  1. don't use an importance rating, like the Constellations taskforce at {{WikiProject Astronomy}}
  2. use the same importance rating as that of WikiProject Brazil, like the Pubs taskforce at {{WikiProject Beer}}
  3. use a rating that is specific to this one task force, which can be set independently of the six other taskforces and also independently of that of WikiProject Brazil, like the Grammy Awards task force at {{WikiProject Awards and prizes}}
  4. use a rating that is specific to this one task force (as with option 3), but if that isn't set, use the same importance rating as that of WikiProject Brazil instead (as with option 2), like Computer science at {{WikiProject Cryptography}}
I'm pretty sure that you don't want option 1 for all of them (if any), which of the others is what you are intending? The seven don't need to use the same method, some of them might even be best with option 1. --Redrose64 (talk) 14:24, 9 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, Redrose64, for the very thoughtful response. The second example ({{WikiProject Beer}}’s Pub task force) is exactly what I had in mind. Is this as simple as changing out that elaborate tf # importance code with {{{importance|}}}? giso6150 (talk) 16:21, 9 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
Yes. For the documentation, you would need to add the |tf importance=importance parameter to each of the {{WPBannerDoc/tf}} --Redrose64 (talk) 16:44, 9 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

I updated the sandbox. Thanks again. giso6150 (talk) 17:12, 9 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Template-protected edit request on 25 August 2015

edit

Can we add “attention-needed” categorization for each of the task forces? I have added some code to the sandbox that seems correct, based on the code used in {{Biography}}, but I know that can be problematic. Please advise. (I will created the necessary category pages once I know that these changes to the template are possible.) giso6150 (talk) 18:45, 25 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Change photo requests to image requests

edit

As part of a nearly-completed shift to distinguish requests for photos from requests for images in general, it is requested that this template be modified to place talk pages in "Wikipedia requested images of..." categories, rather than the old "Wikipedia requested photographs of..." categories. As such, please supplement all references to "photo(s) of..." and "photograph(s) of..." with "image(s) of..." in both the template and its documentation, while maintaining backwards compatibility for the old "photo" parameters. In particular, change "photograph or picture" to simply "image". Note that the "Wikipedia requested images of..." categories have already been created.
