The 'comments' section produced by Template:WP Scotland is u/s. If it is blank it will open for an initial comment. Once that is saved clicking on the edit button gives a dead link. (Message is of the "Server not found: Firefox can't find the server at en.wikipedia.org{{localurl." type). The comment can be edited via the lists at e.g. Wikipedia:Version_1.0_Editorial_Team/Scotland_articles_by_quality/1 where the 'edit comment' link works. See e.g. Talk:Fauna of Scotland for an example. The same problem is also affecting the Scottish islands template, which was based on Template:WP Scotland. add switch for C-class articles

edit

{{editprotected}} add the the follow line, between similar lines for B-class and Start-class, to enable the use of a C-class rating.

Add Fife task force

edit

{{editprotected}} Option for the new Fife task force needs to be added. A field for fife-task-force = yes should put articles into a Category:Fife task force articles. Thanks, Jonathan Oldenbuck (talk) 14:19, 24 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Adding fife-task-force = yes will break the template.... --MZMcBride (talk) 20:09, 28 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Umm, well thanks for your help, I suppose. Jonathan Oldenbuck (talk) 20:59, 30 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

This banner is a bit of a mess. It looks terrible and I notice that none of the advertised "topic specific tags" work. On the sandbox is a proposed conversion to {{WPBannerMeta}}. If you tell me what other options you would like included I can add them in for you. (Or look at the documentation at Template:WPBannerMeta. Martin 21:36, 19 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Many thanks. Is it possible to add tags for our Scottish WikiProjects, and Fife task force?
--Mais oui! (talk) 09:44, 20 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Can I second Mais Oui's request? I don't know how to incorporate support for the Fife task force myself, sorry, but it would be good to get everything incorporated. The new template looks great, thankyou. One question - what does "orphan" mean exactly? If a page has the template on it, then its surely supported by WikiProject Scotland, so I'm not sure how it can be "not currently supported by a Scottish WikiProject". I see this was on the existing template, maybe it is not really needed? Jonathan Oldenbuck (talk) 11:17, 20 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

By the way, thanks for saying that it "looks terrible"!! ;) I would like to point out that I simply copied it lock, stock and barrel from a good pre-existing WikiProject (I seem to remember it might have been WP Australia), so mia non culpa. I fail to see how it looks any more "terrible" than any other WP template, but that's subjectivity for you... Mais oui! (talk) 11:26, 20 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

The criticism wasn't meant personally :) Looking again, the only thing which looks worse than other banners is the to-do list which for some reason only uses part of the width. So ...
  • I will remove the orphan. (I think it meant that it wasn't part of a sub-project, but I agree it's probably not necessary.)
  • Taskforces and subprojects are dead easy using {{WPBannerMeta}}. I will do the first one for you and you should be able to work out how to do the others.
Martin 14:11, 20 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Right, I've done the clans project. You will notice from the syntax that there are various options:

  • Choice of parameter. I chose clans, you can change this.
  • Whether to assess for quality and importance. I chose yes because the categories exist already.
  • Parameter for importance, so importance can be assessed separely for the taskforce. I chose clans-imp.
  • Text to display. What you are seeing there now is the default, which is probably fine, but you can change it.
  • The "main category" - a category to put all articles associated with this taskforce. Not normally needed if you are assessing for quality.

The template accepts 5 taskforces, so just copy the syntax changing the 1s to 2,3,4,5. You might need some help with the sixth because it will need to be "hooked" on separately. Martin 15:37, 20 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Tags

edit

Sorry, but I do not understand how we are meant to switch on the tags.

Eg. I have just added |islands=Yes to the template on this page: Talk:Siadar Wave Energy Project, but nothing happens. Non-admins are not allowed to edit this template, and I cannot see any edits to it since last August, so how can User:Msgj (Martin) have "done the clans project"? --Mais oui! (talk) 09:17, 23 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

We are still adding stuff to the sandbox version at this stage, as far as I can see, at least thats what I've been doing. It will then presumably need an admin to copy over the sandbox version to the template page - nothing will work until then. Msgj/Martin has added "clans" to the sandbox template, and I have added "castles" and the Fife task force. Its actually quite easy to add stuff in to the template, based on the one Martin has already done. Medieval Scotland, transport, and islands still need adding in before the new version can become the "live" template. it shouldn't take long, I may have some time to do it over the weekend. Hope that's clearer, Jonathan Oldenbuck (talk) 15:22, 23 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Aha! Right, not concentrating there... --Mais oui! (talk) 18:36, 23 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Jonathan, I have added the required syntax for extra taskforces. (Currently, the extra ones do not display on the template page. So that you can see the appearance of the new one I moved the clans taskforce over to the hook so the number one slot is now available ...) Martin 09:44, 29 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Todo list

edit

Do you guys want to keep the todo list at the bottom of the banner. It doesn't look like it's being used at the moment and it's blank currently. It's also fully protected which is probably not a good idea as people cannot add or remove stuff from it! Martin 10:22, 16 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

I'd ditch it personally. I've never seen the to do list being used, but then if its protected then that's probably why. Jonathan Oldenbuck (talk) 09:09, 17 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
Agreed. Ben MacDui 09:20, 17 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
Todo list removed. I've also not implemented the peer review or collaboration processes. Although the documentation mentions it, the required categories and pages don't seem to exist so I guessed that they weren't being used. Anyway, it is easy to add any additional functionality at a later stage. Let's do this ...

{{Editprotected}} Please replace this template with the copy in Template:WP Scotland/sandbox. Thanks. Martin 16:24, 17 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Done. Cheers.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 00:06, 20 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
Oops, one small mistake. Please replace
 |BANNER_NAME = Template:WP Scotland/sandbox

found near the bottom, with

 |BANNER_NAME = Template:WP Scotland

Thank you. MartinMsgj 07:16, 21 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Lists

edit

Talk:List of lochs in Scotland marks the article as List class which shows up fine on that page, but the assessment system is not picking this up. Ben MacDui 17:02, 21 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

What do you mean? It is in Category:List-Class Scotland articles. MartinMsgj 18:06, 21 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
True enough, but this is not being picked up by Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Scotland articles by quality statistics. Ben MacDui 18:25, 21 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
I've added the syntax "! {{List-Class|category=Category:List-Class Scotland articles|List}} |-" to the quality statistics page - which may or may not do the trick. Ben MacDui 18:32, 21 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
I'm not sure if the 1.0 bot deals with lists actually. MartinMsgj 18:34, 21 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
Works OK here. Ben MacDui 16:30, 22 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
You're quite right. So I have no idea then! But I noticed that the bot made an edit to the category here which may affect things. Let's see if it picks up on them next time round. MartinMsgj 16:54, 22 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Missing features

edit

{{Editprotected}} Please change:

|QUALITY_SCALE = yes
 |class={{{class|}}}

to:

|QUALITY_SCALE = yes
 |class={{{class|}}}
 |FULL_QUALITY_SCALE = yes
 |AUTO_ASSESS = yes
  |auto={{{auto|}}}

I can add documentation for these extras if someone will remind me, after the change. — Preceding unsigned comment added by SMcCandlish (talkcontribs)

Can you just confirm ... are you making this request on behalf of the WikiProject? Has there been any discussion about whether the full quality scale is needed or desired? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 22:55, 12 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Adding task force - Scottish Gaelic

Could an admin add these parameters as the new Scottish Gaelic task force please? Or whatever parameters are necessary to include this new task force into the template?

OK - I tried this in the sandbox (without the "File" in File:Flag_of_Scotland.svg) and it worked but the image doesn't show up here. I can't see any obvious difference in the syntax. I will semi-protect the page here for a while to allow you the opportunity to fix this yourself. Don't forget to update the documentation. Ben MacDui 18:41, 6 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

I can't seem to be able to get the task force to show in the main template. It works fine in the sandbox. It's also worth noting that WikiProject Clans of Scotland is also in the code for this template but does now show up. Any reason it doesn't want to show more than 5 subprojects?JoshuaJohnLee talk softly, please 19:23, 6 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
I seem to have found the answer:
WPBannerMeta can accommodate up to five task forces, each with its own image, links and importance scale, if desired.
but Template:WP India seems to be able to handle plenty of taskforces/subprojects, so what are they doing right? JoshuaJohnLee talk softly, please 19:28, 6 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
Added. It doesn't show on the template page but it works within articles, but unfortunately I don't know how to fix that. That's all that is needed for now so can be protected again. JoshuaJohnLee talk softly, please 20:04, 6 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
Fixed display on template page. -- WOSlinker (talk) 20:53, 6 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Clans

edit

Why does this have |clans= and |clans-imp= parameters, if {{WikiProject Clans of Scotland}} is a separate template for a separate wikiproject? Either the parameters should be removed, or the templates should merge, the latter only if the clans project is merging to become a taskforce/workgroup of the main Scotland project.  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  01:55, 31 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

There are lots of cases where a taskforce is also a WikiProject in its own right. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 19:15, 31 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Not done for now: That discussion has not been closed yet, and the proposed task forces would apparently be one-person affairs. Wait for the MFD to end, and then get consensus on the talk page for the Scotland WikiProject to add task forces. – Jonesey95 (talk) 20:06, 29 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
