Distribution
editIt is endemic to islands in the Louisiade Archipelago, within Papua New Guinea.
Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and plantations.
Taxonomy
editIt was formerly considered a subspecies of the Collared kingfisher.
