Balochi names(Balochi:بلوچی ناماں) are used by the Baloch people. Among the Baloch, names are a symbol of honor and pride, providing a sense of belonging to the past.[1] [2]
Many Balochi names came from from the characters of Balochi epics and stories.[3]
Given names
editMany Baloch personal names are associated with nature, days or months of birth, and colors.[4] Many Balochi names originate from the Balochi literature , Romantic ballads or Heroic or epic ballads.[5][1][6] Baloch naming conventions, a mixture of Islamic and pre-Islamic traditions.[2]
There are several categories of names used for men such as colours, birds, trees, medicines or medicinal herbs and flowers or smelling substances. A few examples are shahdost, mazar, shahin, sabzal, kambar, izgind, Tahlag.[1][7]
women’s names may derive from pre-Islamic folk traditions such as Parizad and Mahpari, both derived from pari, meaning “fairy.”[1][8]
