NLAB Solar AB is a privately owned company based in Stockholm, Sweden that was founded in April 2009 by Mr. Giovanni Fili. It specialises in developing and commercialising dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC or DSC) technology. DSCs are third generation solar cells that are more efficient and cheaper to manufacture than any other type of solar cells.
Currently, NLAB Solar is building a pilot plant with a production area of 768m2 that would be operationally ready by the end of 2012.
Technology
editNLAB Solar incorporates One Dimensional Photonic Crystal (1DPC) in traditional DSCs, which seeks to maximise the amount of light absorbed while retaining the semi-transparency. The nano porous photonic crystal layer will help to scatter the incoming light rays and act as a reflective layer which allows for more light to be absorbed by the electrolyte at any time of the day.
The actual efficiency of DSCs with 1DPC is still being refined and optimised currently.
