The Swamp Candles are an American blues rock band from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, formed in 1992. The band went on an indefinite hiatus in July 2008. They are best known as the band who peformed the theme song for the Blue World Order (bWo) stable in Extreme Championship Wrestling. They have their own imprint, entitled Mudwax Records.

History

edit

Their music had been featured as the soundtrack for 3PW Wrestling's Recipe For Disaster DVD, as well as the independent films Friend of Sinners and Communication Breakdown.

On Wednesday, August 9, 2006, The Swamp Candles, along with Primadonnaz, Toxic, and Dropping Stone, participated in a benefit concert, at Whiskey Dix, for the Blue Meanie, a friend of the band and non-smoker, had to undergo life-saving lung surgery in March,[1] to help pay his medical expenses. At this show they played the "The BWO Theme" live for the first, and only time. Not long after this event, the band went on indefinite hiatus due to various contributing factors.

The band recorded a cover of the song "Space Truckin'" by the British hard rock band Deep Purple. Other covers include "In The Clouds", "Wildflower" and "Peace Dog" by The Cult. The last of which was featured on Horse Nation: A Tribute to the Life, Music, and Spirit of The Cult (Mudwax Records 1997). On that same CD they were the backing band for Michele Van Zeelands cover of "Earth Mofo". They've also been known to cover "Celebration Day", "How Many More Times", "The Song Remains the Same" and "Custard Pie" by Led Zeppelin. All of which can be found on various bootlegs. In addition to "Space Truckin'" by Deep Purple, the band also played "Highway Star" on one occasion with guest keyboardist Don Fortune. In their earlier days they occasionally played "Long Way to Go" by Alice Cooper, "Whole Lotta Rosie" by AC/DC, and "Holidays in the Sun" by the Sex Pistols.
