Wikipedia
editEditing Wikipedia, i.e. contributing to the Wiki, is part of a project of mine. In Wikipedia, my interests include arts, architecture, music, cinema, history, and biographies. The beautiful thing about Wikipedia, as a reader/researcher will inevitably encounter, is the lateral projection one encounters with Wikipedia-ed information. That is, rather than strictly diving deep into a topic, one finds many contributing nodes of information that directs one's experience tangentially, as well as attributes to a more general understanding of the world. This is seen particularly in seated links and referenced entries. Thus, my interests too are subject to this lateral movement, so I end up contributing to such things as the Katyn massacre, a topic presumably far from my core interests.
Web Nexus
editMy Wikipedia project is part of a larger project entitled "Web Nexus"[1] in which I've engaged many of the more commonly used websites on the internet. Such sites are Facebook,[2] Twitter,[3] Amazon, and my personal website. While Web Nexus is far from all encompassing of the more commonly used sites (as it could be infinitely pursued). By including Wikipedia I hope to propose the freedom of re-purposing such sites on two levels: 1st, to engage the sites as they are intended, e.g. in the case of Wikipedia to play by Wikipedia's rules, i.e. entering information in encyclopedic form with intention of contributing to general free knowledge; 2nd to reflect upon the first level, that is to explicate the usage(s) of commonly accessed sites.
