The Kavemen were an American garage rock band from Dallas, Texas who were active in the 1960s,
History
editThe Kavemen were from the southeastern section of Dallas,Texas and formed in 1965.[1][2] Their lineup consisted of Roland Allen on vocals, Rodney Vineyard on lead guitar, Tommy Fonseca on rhythm guitar, Jerry Colwell on bass, and Bill Walden on drums.[1] They began as and instrumental group playing at Twilight Time Skating Rink, in Dallas, and played at high school dances held at H. Grady Spruce High School and E. B. Comstock Junior High.[1][2] Vocalists Jimmy and Roland Allen attended Spruce High and after meeting the band, were invited to join as dual lead vocalists.[1] The band also played the Surfers A Go Go, a converted bowling alley, where Johnny Green and The Green Men regularly played.[2]
The group went to Sumet Studios in Dallas to record several songs for possible future release; "Can't You See Me", "I Feel the Same", "Why", and "Without You".[1][3] But, because of an accident that caused a chip in the mastering lathe, the recording was postponed and never issued.[1] After Rodney Vineyard left the group to play with Sunny Satin and the Mysterians, the Kavemen could not find another lead guitar player, so they broke up.[1] When Sumet expressed an intention to re-master and release their previously recorded songs, the now defunct group declined.[1]
...Tommy recently spoke to Roland Allen. He lives in Gun Barrel City and he told Tommy that Jimmy had passed away the just the week before. We cannot locate Bill. He was the drummer. Rodney lives in Balch Springs, TX and he still plays for VFW Posts occasionally.
