  • Comment: What was the point of resubmitting with unreferenced sections? You have a total paucity of references for the facts you assert. 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 12:23, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
  • Comment: While I think Lucero may pass WP:BIO this draft does not yet demonstrate that. It has the feel of a magazine article praising him rather than a neutral Wikipedia article.
In addition there are insufficient references.
Please look at WP:NCREATIVE to see what needs to be done to assert and verify his notability 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 10:12, 12 November 2024 (UTC)

George Ian Lucero, better known as Taipan Lucero, is a Filipino calligrapher, designer, and cultural advocate, known for founding CalligraFilipino, an initiative that integrates pre-colonial Filipino script with traditional cultural elements. His work combines the script of Baybayin with influences from traditional Filipino art and jewelry, creating a visual style that draws on motifs such as the Maranao Okir, the Sarimanok, the Kulintang pattern, and the Lingling-o charm from the Cordilleras.[1]

Early life and education

edit

Taipan Lucero is from Manila, with heritage connections to the regions of Ilocos and Samar. He graduated cum laude from the University of the Philippines College of Fine Arts, specializing in visual communications, advertising, and marketing. His academic background provided the foundation for his career in design and cultural arts.[2]

Career

edit

Lucero began his professional career as an independent creative industry professional, working with clients that included Fortune 500 companies. He later accepted a design role in Kobe, Japan, where he became the only Filipino designer at his company. It was during his time in Japan that Lucero trained in Shodo (Japanese calligraphy), an experience that influenced his interest in cultural preservation and inspired him to develop CalligraFilipino upon returning to the Philippines.[3]

CalligraFilipino

edit

CalligraFilipino combines Baybayin with traditional Filipino art forms, incorporating cultural motifs to highlight the heritage of the Philippines. Lucero’s work has been featured in exhibitions locally and internationally, as well as in various media outlets. His advocacy seeks to maintain the legacy of Baybayin while presenting it as a fine art form.[4]

Public speaking and workshops

edit

Lucero regularly conducts workshops and lectures on Filipino calligraphy. His presentations emphasize the significance of preserving Baybayin and Filipino cultural heritage, particularly in the digital age. He has presented at numerous academic and cultural institutions, including the Philippine Consulate in New York, where he promoted his CalligraFilipino VI exhibit.[5][6]

Artistic Philosophy and Influence

edit

Lucero’s work integrates techniques from Japanese Shodo with Baybayin to create a distinctive calligraphic style that honors both Filipino heritage and Japanese artistic traditions. His use of elements from Filipino cultural artifacts, including traditional gold jewelry designs, reflects his commitment to showcasing the historical and aesthetic richness of Philippine culture.[7] [8]

Recognition and Legacy

edit

Lucero’s contributions have been acknowledged by various cultural institutions, including the Philippine Embassy in Washington, DC. He advocates for Filipino cultural pride and envisions Baybayin as an integral component of contemporary Filipino art. Through CalligraFilipino, Lucero encourages appreciation for Filipino heritage and promotes the preservation of traditional Filipino art forms.[9]
