Travis Waters (born January 22, 1967) is a convicted drug smuggler and author of the book The Westcoast Kid. In it he details his life, from abused child to local basketball star playing against Deion Sanders to becoming the biggest drug smuggler in southwest Florida for Pablo Escobar's Medellín Cartel in the late 1980s. He details his six year incarceration, including time in the notorious Florida State Prison know as Raiford, or "The Rock," and the beatings and sexual assaults he suffered from the prison gangs who used his basketball skills to win them money on the inside. Currently he uses his book to teach at-risk youth about the dangers of the drug world and to stay away from bad influences.
His book, The Westcoast Kid, has been turned into a documentary film [1], released in the fall of 2011. Also, a script has been developed to be produced as a feature film.
