Article body
editThe NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Tournament is a women's college basketball tournament held annually in the United States. The Women's Championship began in the 1981–82 season and is held every March. 2021 viewership went up significantly, [1]According to Sports Media Watch, the first-round matchup between Tennessee and Middle Tennessee on ABC had the largest viewership of any women's first-round matchup since 2010, and the Sweet 16 had 66 percent more total audiences than in 2019. [2]However, the assumption that women's basketball generates less money than men's basketball means that competitive balance has traditionally been a smaller priority in that sport than in the top level sports. As attempts to strengthen intercollegiate women's athletics continue, this becomes a major concern.
