He came from a Jewish family. He was an opponent of General Chlopicki's dictatorship
In March 1832 with Aleksander Pulaski they founded the "Polish Democratic Society" (Polish: Towarzystwo Demokratyczne Polskie, TDP)
In exile he spent time in Paris, Jersey and London
17th March 1842 married Mary Ann Westcott, in Whitechapel, Middlesex
