The Southern Power Company was an early 20th century electric company in North and South Carolina. It was formed in 1905 by James Buchanan Duke, Walter Gill Wylie, and William States Lee, and much of the early generation capacity came from hydroelectric plants along the Catawba River. The name of the company was changed in 1924 to the Duke Power Company.
