User:Master son/sandbox/Freeways of Metropolitan Milwaukee
The freeway system of the greater Milwaukee metropolitan area in the U.S. state of Wisconsin is a network of freeways designed to provide fast moving roads for commuters in the area. The completed freeways are part of a larger proposed system that was designed with several other freeways to be completed, but was abandoned after opposition from local areas.
The freeway system consists of the East-West Freeway, which carries Interstate 94 west of downtown toward Madison, the North-South Freeway which carries Interstate 43 north of downtown toward Sheboygan and Green Bay and I-94 (along with I-43 for part of the route) toward Chicago, the Zoo Freeway which carries U.S. Route 45 and - south of it's interchange with the East-West Freeway - Interstate 894, the Stadium Freeway which carries U.S. 41 for it's short track north of Miller Park, the Lake Freeway which carries Interstate 794, the Airport Freeway which carries I-43 and I-894, the Rock Freeway which carries I-43 toward Beloit, and the WIS 119 Airport Spur to General Mitchell International Airport. Several other freeways were proposed and never built, or partially built and later demolished.

editThe East West Freeway bisects the Milwaukee metropolitan area and is concurrent with I-94 west of the Marquette Interchange which connects the city with Madison and points west and Interstate 794 east of the interchange to the interchange with Lincoln Memorial Drive (Exit 1F) which was known as the Lake Interchange. This is the busiest freeway in the system, with average vehicle counts reaching as high as 168,000, particularly between the Zoo and Stadium Interchanges[1][2][3] The East-West Freeway begins at the western Waukesha County line and ends at the Lake Interchange[4]
