A little about me, as brief as I can be, to describe my education and work history, so as to state my qualifications: I'm a 69 year old retired Reliability Engineer and a mostly retired mathematician. I obtained an M.A. in theoretical mathematics in 1980 from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. I was also an instructor there for 2 years, after which I entered into a U.S. Army program to obtain a masters in I.E. from Texas A&M, but unfortunately the program was disconnected from Texas A&M and brought in house under the US Army Materiel Command at the Intern Training Center physically located at Red River Army Depot near New Boston, Texas. There I had 14 months of classes in Reliability & Maintainability Engineering, after which I was classified as a GS-801-General Engineer (Reliability) and sent to work at what was then called The US Army Aviation Research and Development Command (AVRADCOM) in St. Louis, MO. I worked there for 2 years on the AH-1 Apache, the RPV, and other systems. I found what I hoped would be a better job with the US Air Force Logistics Command at the San Antonio Air Logistics Center at Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX. I worked there for 2 years on development of the C-17, evaluating the impact on Reliability of engineering change proposals to the C-5, and I developed the environmental stress screen for the refurbishment process of the Electronic Engine Control (EEC) for the F-111. I found a much better job in 1986 at what was then called the U.S. Army Missile Command (MICOM) at Redstone Arsenal, which borders the city of Huntsville, Alabama. I worked there mostly as a Reliability Engineer on the development of various missile systems including Javelin, HAWK, PATRIOT, THAAD, MEADS, mostly out of the functional support organization the Research Development and Engineering Center (RDEC), but sometimes directly in a Project Office, including a few TS Special Access Programs (SAP). I had a 2 year stint in management in my 17 years there. I retired at the very end of 2003. Since then I've studied and played a lot of chess, done some math modeling very occasionally and am now taking various college courses for fun, one or two at a time, since at my age, where I live, tuition is free. It's something interesting to do and also gets me "out of the house to get the stink blown off me" as my mom used to say.
I have made a very few edits in Wikipedia. I would have made a lot more but I do not understand editing Wikipedia very well and so, erring on the side of caution, most of the time I don't make an edit for fear of "messing things up." MikeDoyle (talk) 03:20, 10 January 2018 (UTC)
