I would say you have gain the trust and respect of the community by default already ... New article award ... great team work... willingness to learn... etc.. This is also reflected in the way someone advised you on a copyright concern above - they - I can only assume after looking at your tlak page and contributions - took great care in the way they informed you about the problem - leading me to believe even those not familiar with you see your good faith intentions.Moxy (talk) 16:01, 22 April 2013 (UTC)

You have inspired me

edit

I thought to myself if you can write articles for English wiki with your language barrier and internet issues that I could also write for wiki rather than just sticking to minor edits. I was inspired by your interest in U2 and wanted to work on creating an article from one of the red links in the bono on bono article Michka Assayas. I wanted to invite you to look at my draft and help on it if you wish and if know anything more about the author. I do have a question about the two books, "Bono on Bono: Conversations with Michka Assayas" and the "Bono" in conversations with Michka Assayas? They have two publishing dates, and two different covers, and I am assuming one is just the same with additional information added. Kind of like an extended version right? Do you know anything about these two, like can you clarify? I am hoping to be able to have the french article translated in order to add the info from that to the english version. Its in a sandbox as I am not ready to go live yet. I want to thank you for being so dedicated to wiki and how grateful I am for the inspiration. OH and i am also interested in the spelling of the authors name it appears to be different on the french article and i am wondering if this is just a french translation or if he changed the spelling do you know?TattØØdẄaitre§ lĖTŝ tÅLĶ 15:56, 12 July 2013 (UTC)

To be honest, portals are quite obscure corners of Wikipedia, with low levels of editor input. You may find that nobody contributes to this review request. Retirement

edit

Hi. I think it would be a great pity if you were really to retire.I've enjoyed following your edits on the pages you have access to and in that aspect you've made a far greater contribution to this encyclopedia than you imagine. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 13:03, 27 August 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for the kind words Kudpung กุดผึ้ง. But the majority of my edits are in talk pages and that's not what Wikipedia is about. I don't want to break any rules and my contributions are just an extremely low part of the encyclopedia and very poor because of my lack of Internet access. Thank you so much. I didn't know you'd follow my edits :) Miss Bono [zootalk] 13:09, 27 August 2013 (UTC)
I'm very actively engaged on Editor Retention, and hate to see us lose good people simply because their Internet access is limited. I don't know exactly just how limited your access is, but I feel you have a lot to contribute to the many areas that are not mainspace. It's obvious you are not here merely for socialising. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 13:23, 27 August 2013 (UTC)
If your Internet is slow, probably the places to start are those where there is a lot of reading, so as soon as the pages have loaded you can go offline and continue reading them. (This reminds me a bit of the old days in Europe when connection was a costly long distance dial up over a V90 modem). So you could start by familiarising yourself with policies such as WP:Deletion, WP:COI, WP:Sock, WP:Username, WP:Notability, WP:Reliable sources, WP:Verifiability, etc. When you've done all that, you'd be ready to take part in WP:AfD, WP:NPP,WP:AIV, WP:ANI, depending how quickly you can get the pages to load. You'll also come across some familiar faces, and you'll learn who to make friends with and who to avoid! Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 14:49, 27 August 2013 (UTC)
Thanks! The good thing is that I have a super fast conection, the bad thing is that the only place I can access is Wikipedia. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง :) Miss Bono [zootalk] 15:44, 27 August 2013 (UTC)

Good morning, Miss Bono,

Please stick with Wikipedia. Kudpung is right. There is much that you can do here. You have already collaborated on a lot of articles, and that is a very good thing. Please stay. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 14:39, 27 August 2013 (UTC)

I am eating a lot of ice cream just to calm down my nerves... I don't want to be a nuisance wandering from talk to talk. As Leah said: [...] all this chat does not develop articles. Miss Bono [zootalk] 14:44, 27 August 2013 (UTC)

I will think about it... Miss Bono [zootalk] 15:04, 27 August 2013 (UTC)
I'll add to the thoughts others have said here. Miss Bono, even if you need to take some time away, I also hope you will consider returning. It's important that you do not compare yourself to most editors because you are in the challenging situation of having highly restricted access to the internet and that English is not your primary language. I've watched your edits for some time, and I am very impressed with how you have met that challenge. It's remarkable how you have been able to make marked improvements to articles like Ali Hewson and on U2 songs. I think I would have given up a long time ago had I been in your position, but that's because I am so used to my privileges. If more people tried to understand your situation better, they would see why you have to use talk pages so much. Please be fair to yourself. While Cullen brought up some good points here about the expectations you have for other editors that I think you should really think about, you definitely don't suck at Wikipedia. Part of the difficult aspects for me at Wikipedia when I first starting editing here was, not just the complication of the university level policy, guidelines and procedures but learning about copyright, public domain and creative commons license verses the "Fair Use" of images or even text. The way that Wikipedia works is not a pinpointed thing. People should not accuse you of not using Wikipedia the correct way, because that assumes that their own perceptions are accurate and they would certainly need to demonstrate that. Editors can be abrasive and they can hold grudges sometimes and some will even not like you at all. But, as long as you are here for the right reasons, to expand knowledge in as free a manner possible, you are not a disruption and you are a net asset to the encyclopedia...no amount of accusation will stick. You are those things, and Cullen is right. You are young and passion runs quick and fast and I believe it can be an influence on reaction at times. Trust me. It is common to despair when you receive an unhelpful criticism, especially if you feel it is inaccurate. Take a break and give it time. Patience is called for on Wikipedia. You have to have patience for yourself as much as with others. You will see that many editors will announce their intent to leave from despair. I have done it. Many of the editors I have worked with I have seen do it. Some come back, some never leave and some are just as strong as before. Criticism is a natural bump in the road to productivity. Learn what you can from whatever mistakes you feel you may have made, any lesson you think you can get from this an move on. These things can make you a better editor instead of driving you away. Take a wiki-break. Go out in the world and be a part of life and come back with a better outlook towards how you can continue to contribute in your own way.--Mark Miller (talk) 17:42, 27 August 2013 (UTC)

Many editors begin their Wikipedia career by wandering around articles and back pages and viewing history, old and new. Many editors have bumped into gargoyles and got caught up in the bramble bushes that abound here. The trick is to keep moving forward and to stay away from the hornet nests. Don't focus on your critics. Don't bring them into your real world and cause yourself anguish. This place is like a giant zoo. So...you stood in front of the lions cage and he growled at you. I suggest you move to the chimpanzee cage where they may actually interact (see:collaborate) with you. As Mark suggests---take a break. We all do it. ```Buster Seven Talk 17:57, 27 August 2013 (UTC)

What people at the Ref Desk think about my questions

edit
  • Her English is a lot better than many native speakers'. Does the Spanish wikipedia have a ref desk? I am fairly certain we have many more contributors. μηδείς (talk) 00:12, 5 October 2013 (UTC)
  • I have a vague recollection of asking a question on their ref/help desk some years back, and as I recall I got a useful answer. Many of Miss Bono's questions I think are best directed at native English speakers, some of whom (like yourself) know enough Spanish to be able to help. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc?
  • Except for her not knowing certain uncommon English idioms, and every once in a while saying something like "her wife" instead of "his" because her and wife agree in gender in Spanish, MB's English is excellent. μηδείς (talk) 02:40, 5 October 2013 (UTC)
  • I find those questions about idioms to be fun, interesting, and often challenging. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 03:27, 5 October 2013 (UTC)
  • I want to add myself to the list of people who think Miss Bono asks very good questions. I look forward to them because they make me think. Miss Bono, if your questions were bad, no one would be answering them; but people always try to answer them because they are good questions. Duoduoduo (talk) 17:44, 5 October 2013 (UTC)
  • If the Refdesk had a MVP award Miss Bono would consistently be the clear winner. Don't stop what you're doing MB, we like your posts. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 08:30, 6 October 2013 (UTC)
  • All of Miss Bono's questions on the computing desk have been of high quality and a pleasure to answer.
