Bernie Holland Bernie Holland is a British guitarist and composer, most active in the 1970s. As band member and session musician, he has played with many artists including: Joan Armatrading, Van Morrison, Danny Thompson, Stealer's Wheel, Ian Gillan, Georgie Fame and Linda Lewis. [1] As composer he is best known for the instrumental Diamond Dust, which guitarist Jeff Beck recorded on his Blow By Blow album in 1975. The track was listed by Rolling Stone magazine as one of producer George Martin's greatest non Beatles productions. [2]
Holland was a member of Bluesology, formed by Long John Baldry in 1966, which also included Caleb Quaye on guitar, Elton Dean on Saxophone and Reginald Dwight on organ. According to Holland, Dwight put together Baldry's first name with Dean's first name to create his better known moniker Elton John. [3] After Bluesology disintegrated, Holland joined the psychedelic-rock trio The Jody Grind. Part of the London Underground scene of the time, the Jody Grind performed the Camden Borough Fringe Festival (London) in May 1969, alongside Pink Floyd, The Pretty Thing and Roy Harper.[4]
