The Octavian Report is an American quarterly magazine published by the Octavian Foundation. It covers economics, politics, and culture. [2] It was founded by Richard Hurowitz[3] in 2014. Members of The Octavian Report’s editorial board include Garry Kasparov, Anne Applebaum, Bernard-Henri Levy, Ian Bremmer, Stacy Schiff and Nouriel Roubini.[4]
Notable contributors and interviews include: Former U.S. Secretary of State George Schultz; Novelist and Nobel Laureate Mario Vargas Llosa;[5] Former Prime Minister of Canada Stephen Harper; Former U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney;[6] Former President of South Africa FW de Klerk; Former Prime Minister of Israel Ehud Barak; political activist Jody Williams; Former Prime Minister of Australia Kevin Rudd; Israeli Human Rights Activist Natan Sharansky; News Anchor Ted Koppel; Former U.S. Secretary of Defense William Perry;[7] Former U.S. Ambassador to the UN John Bolton;[8] and American novelist Madeline Miller.
In its Spring 2019 issue, the magazine featured an interview with Harold Bloom on Othello which was illustrated with a specially commissioned painting Desdemona by John Currin.[9] The Winter 2018 issue featured photographs by photographer Thomas Demand.[10] The Summer 2017 issue featured an interview with environmental scientist Jesse Ausubel about his work to sequence Leonardo da Vinci’s DNA.[11]
The Octavian Report also sponsors the annual Octavian Forum. The inaugural Octavian Forum was hosted by Sotheby’s in 2017.[12] The Forum features interdisciplinary panel discussions on wide-ranging topics in finance, politics, and art. Past speakers at the forum have included: Jim Grant and Nouriel Roubini;[13] Former Prime Minster of Spain José Maria Aznar;[14] former Pixar CFO Lawrence Levy,[15] author Erica Jong,[16] Billionaire Thomas Kaplan; former National Director of the Anti-Defamation League Abraham Foxman and former Principal Dancer with the American Ballet Theatre Ethan Stiefel.[17]
The Octavian Report produces a podcast, “The Rostrum.” In 2020, it launched a special series devoted to the COVID-19 crisis.[18]
