Vision

edit

To close the huge content gaps and improve on the systemic bias in African continent by increasing the visibilities of African writers and their works. This will be done by making: articles, citations, images and data, about the historical and contemporary African writers and their works to be available in different languages.

Overview

edit

The literatue industry in Africa is huge; from Nigerian literature to the literature of: Ghana, South Africa, Kenya, and Egypt. All of these very active literature industries are poorly represented on Wikipedia, as the available information about them is very scanty and difficult to access. The AfroLit Project aims to fix this problem, by encouraging Wikipedians to help in improving the coverage of the history, works, people, places, events, etc, that are associated with the literature of Africa, African countries, the Caribbean, and the diaspora.

Focus will include variety of interests, such as: Contemporary literature articles, literature history articles, biographies of relevant personalities (especially women), articles about books, images of relevant subjects and personalities, etc. This project is designed to use literature to help bridge the content gap on Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects, as well as to improve on the awareness of these projects and the overall movement in African countries.
