Ramius Stiehler (born August 18, 1999) is a United States Virgin Islands soccer player who currently plays as a goalkeeper for NISA club Michigan Stars FC and the United States Virgin Islands national team.[1]
He is currently sponsored by goalkeeping equipment manufacturer Mauer Athletics.[2]
Club career
editDuring his high school career at Dixie Hollins High School, Stiehler was named as an honorable mention among the all-time best soccer players in the Tampa Bay area by the Tampa Bay Times.[3] He played for local side St Petersburg FC Aztecs of the UPSL from 2016 to 2017.[4]
The following year he made the jump to Europe, signing for Tadcaster Albion A.F.C. of the English non-league system as part of the I2I International Soccer Academy. After one year he moved to Spain and joined Rayo Sanluqueno CF of the Segunda Andalusia. He remained with the club until 2020 when he transferred to CD Almuñécar City FC of the Primera Andaluza.[5][4] For the 2020/21 season, Stiehler made two appearances for the first team and an additional four appearances with the reserve side.[6]
In 2022 Stiehler returned to the United States and joined Michigan Stars FC of the NISA.[5] That season, Michigan Stars were crowned league champions with Stiehler as the starting keeper.[7] The following season he joined Tampa Bay Strikers of the National Indoor Soccer League.[8]
International career
editIn March 2023, Stiehler was called up to the United States Virgin Islands senior national team for 2022–23 CONCACAF Nations League C matches against Turks and Caicos Islands and Sint Maarten.[9] He made his debut against the former on March 25 in an eventual 0–1 defeat in which he made seven saves.[10][11][12] At the conclusion of League C, Stiehler was named to the league’s Best XI in the goalkeeper position. CONCACAF journalists remarked, “Stiehler was superb in his lone appearance in this window, conceding only one goal in a narrow 1–0 loss to Turks & Caicos Islands. He made seven saves and had 13 clearances in the game.”[13]
