This is my article on marine biologist Gloria Hollister Anable.

Gloria Hollister Anable (1903-1988)

Gloria Hollister was a scientist that was born in 1903 and died in 1988. She was named as a zoologist and explorer. Her known works were exploring the seafloor in a bathysphere. She worked along with William Beebe. She set a world record for descending 1208 into the sea floor. (Encyclopedia.com, 2024)

Gloria was born and raised in New York City. As a young girl she wanted to become a doctor, but her father did not want that for her. She later became a scientist. Her notable work included studies she did in the 1930’s. She developed new techniques for studying bottom dwelling fish and discovering new plants in animals in South America (U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, 2024)

A lot of Gloria's research she completed with William Beebe. They studied deep sea and reef fish. She provided much information and has given a lot of information of these creatures. She also was involved in the exploration of Guyana, also formerly known as British Guiana. She led this expedition into Kaieteur Falls, she made a massive finding of 43 waterfalls. (Richman, 2013)
