editThank you very much for your support for my recent RfA, which I'm quite happy to announce has passed with a consensus of 67 supporting, 0 opposed and 0 neutral. I'm glad you took the time to evaluate my candidacy, and I'll be working hard to justify the vote of confidence you've placed in me. Thanks for nominating me a while back too; I personally haven't used the tools very often (I'm still an editor with admin powers!), but when I have used them I've been thankful to have them. editClosing AFD discussions
editSince you recently got promoted to admin, I would like to remind you that when you delete an article on AFD, paste the link to the discussion in the "Reason for deletion" box (ie add Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Article ) instead of just entering "per AFD". It makes it easier for everybody else to have easy access to the AFD discussion instead of trying to search for it. Please refer to WP:DPR for more information. Thanks. Ann Frank's Cats
editYou closed that AfD today with ano consensus tag. The article had previously been AfD'd and the consensus was merge.
Since the article had been previously tagged with a merge tag, then I assume that the no consensus decision means that it stands as it is - and the merge tag be replaced? Could you arrange that? I also assume that since the article was due to be merged more than 5 days ago that it should be deleted forthwith?Neuropean 20:56, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
There was a fair share of both merge, keep and delete votes so I closed it as no consensus. You can merge it if you want. Thanks Jaranda wat's sup 21:00, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
- I'm afraid that, as ever, Neuropean is misrepresenting in order to pursue his vendetta and little campaign. The previous discussion (when a much smaller and different article was called just Moortje) waqs speedily closed because Neuropean had opened the AfD (as his 2nd eber edit - strange) and then, within 10 minutes voted for a merge. The reult was NOT merge but to discuss a merge - a very different matter. Pwerhaps you'd care to look at Neuropean's contributions and behvaiour in the past two weeks. Certainly their is point-making and a very destructiuve approach to certain articles, there is also a rather alarming fixation with my edits. He has been warned about his behaviour but continues. What do you suggest? Robertsteadman 07:09, 2 July 2006 (UTC)

The block of 172.191.43.75
editFrom what is seen in the edit history of the vandal 172.191.43.75 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log), I don't think that it's a shared proxy, even if it is an AOL IP. Get better and help please, with the article you keep deleting of mine
editFirstly I wish you all the best with getting better, I know how bad a broken arm is-someone running into you and you stick out your arm!ouchy- I hope you get better and you'll be able to contribute to Wikipedia 3 times the amount you are now!!
I need your help a little bit, after speaking to wikibot, he told me to contact you, I can understand why you have been deleting my article (2-4-2), I am very new to editing wikipedia-been reading for year and tried to start a new article that has been getting some publicity, due to their new Television series thats coming up, they have had hits in japan etc, but I can understand you getting rid, by thinking its some self promotion but they are getting quite big in britian and about to shoot to international fame as well, so I thought Ill get the ball rolling when I heard a radio interview-and seeing them in Marie Claire (magazine). I have nothing to do with the band, just was eager to write my first real post. If you have anydoubt please visit http://www.greyologyinc.com/artists.php?id=1 to see about them-I am sorry for the understanding I hope you will reinstate the article.Horfsby 08:56, 2 July 2006 (UTC)horfsby
I do not think you have read the article at all, or done any research on it to show that they are a band, just like the ska band, which I have also heard, just because it is not american and famous like the beatles people still want to read up about bands. THINK BEFORE YOU delete, on advice I am putting the article up again.Horfsby 08:55, 3 July 2006 (UTC)horfsby

Sysop actions
editHi, hope you're feeling better soon. Congratulations on your promotion to sysop. Two things:
- According to WP:BP, you should never block yourself for testing purposes.
- I noticed that you speedied Skippy The Fridge as an A7. Unlike many of the other criteria, it's often not immediately obvious just by looking at the article whether it meets the criterion or not. So, it's especially important to read the article before speedying something under that criterion. In this case, the article claimed that they were "one of the finest ska bands of all time", which is an assertion of notability. I've restored the article.
No harm done in either case, just wanted to let you know. Cheers, JYolkowski // talk 00:39, 3 July 2006 (UTC)

Brainbug
editHi, I was wondering why you deleted the Brainbug stub. - Cybergoth 16:59, 4 July 2006 (UTC)
I deleted it because it had no claim to notablity via A7. Thanks Jaranda wat's sup 18:36, 4 July 2006 (UTC)
I see. I did not intend to create a vanity stub. I think the band is notable for a few reasons:
- There was a request for this article,
- The band is noteworthy for contributing music to a couple of movies (including A Night at the Roxbury although the track did not make it on the soundtrack album), and television commercial (for Nissan apparently), and
- It is a fairly popular band.
Would you consider re-instating the stub and letting myself or others work on it? - Cybergoth 21:13, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

Hi
editRegardin you speedy deleting this. I would like to argue that it is not a copyvio in the comon sense, since it is not in article space. In other words, if that text would have been in a talk page or my article space, nobody would have deleted it. I further argue that it is no more of a copyvio than the Google cache of the same. Would google have chaced it if doing so was a copyvio? The aim of that is not to claim ownership, just to make a copy of the information so it won't get lost, since it is at risk of geting lost, considering that the main article of that is deleted, hence why i reference the google cach. What is you respons, don't you agree that a copy in non-article space is fine and actualy fair use? If the problem is that the copy is linked to, then we could un-link it. I mean, would you have deleted the copy if it was in a talk page sub-space? Peace--Striver 15:04, 5 July 2006 (UTC)
Hmm articles are not fair use and it's a copyvio, even if it's in a talk page or your subpage. Better off to copy it somewhere else. Thanks Jaranda wat's sup 23:37, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

Resent Speedy deletion
editPlease restore the Dennis Detwiller page you recently deleted as seen here. No warning was placed on my—the creator's—talk page, nor was a reasonable amount of time given for a hangon to contest the db-bio placed on the page. To start, I am not Mr. Detwiller, nor do I know him, so it is not a vanity page. The only potentialy valid reason for the deletion could be you felt that the article, as it was at time of deletion, did not assert Mr. Detwiller's notability well enough. The article was created as a stub with the express purpose of expantion, and checking the What links here link from the page would have revealed a number of links to that page, one of note being a Requested articles page and the other being the Origins Award winner roleplaying game Delta Green.

Indefinite block of MP123
editJorge, would you please shorten the block of User:MP123 (aka User:Microphon200 and User:CubsFan2006) to something reasonable, like a week or a month? Extraordinarily long blocks for this type of user tend to have the opposite effect than intended, if you know what I mean. ×Meegs 03:05, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
- I was the one who reviewed the unblock request of the blocked user. I say that the user should be indef blocked still. One, Jimbo has asked for users who keep on breaking copyright rules, despite many warnings, to be blocked. These guys only hurt the project. Two, he has been told many times to stop what he has been doing. Three, he has socks, so this is a perfect reason we have to block him indef. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 03:32, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
- That user has been giving several last chances in 3 different accounts though but keeps on uploading copyvio images, I see no point in blocking for a week. Thanks Jaranda wat's sup 03:49, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
- I have followed this user for months [4] and was the first to block them. This user is not hostile to the project, and has made many good edits throughout their time here. Further, in the past they have (very slowly) responded to direction and warnings by at least moving to different types of copyright violation. I am as frustrated with them as anyone, but telling them to leave and never come back is not appropriate, and, more importantly, will not work.
- An Indefinite block will, in the worst case, turn a good-faith editor into an enemy. More likely though, and this is what I was trying to avoid spilling, it will drive them to sockpuppetry. If it does, their uploads become much harder to keep track of, and our next message to them will start from square one, "welcome, please do not do that."
- I propose either reducing their block to a few weeks, or offering to unblock them on the condition that they abandon image work altogether. In either case, I'd like to keep them engaged and in our sight. ×Meegs 04:08, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

What to do with "vandal" template accusation?
editWhat does it mean for a user to add the template "vandal" with my username? What should I do about it? e.g. See Duncharris Dunc|☺ trying to delete the Just-so story page. He repeatedly reverted major additions I had added due to his strong POV against any criticism of evolution. I put the material on the discussion page 5. On the delete page, viewers have voted 11:4 to keep it. See: 6 I do not believe I have acted as a vandal. If anything, Dunc|☺ has repeatedly reverted without discussion or moved material for deletion that he does not like. PS thanks for managing the 3RR block. I needed the lesson.) editRef: your closure of the Word bookstore. My understanding is that Wikipedia:Consensus is normally from about 60% to over 80%. This discussion had 7 keep votes, 4 delete votes plus nom = 5 delete votes - 7: 5 is less than 60% (58.3% recurring)- no concensus - I don't think rounding up was appropriate - 60% is the lower limit - might make no difference to the outcome, makes a difference to how the outcome is recorded. --A Y Arktos\talk 10:05, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
