editPlease reread Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents#Squeakbox, there is some disagreement with your decision. (I am one who disagreed, but I am not the only administrator that has disagreed.) But I really, really, don't want any more related wheel-warring for the ArbComm case to review, so I'd much rather you did any reversion than that anybody else did, not just me. RfA thanks
editHi, Jaranda, I just wanted to thank you for your support on my RfA, which was successful with a final tally of 61/0/2. I'm glad you found me a good editor and that you appreciated Durin's nom (remarkably thorough, I thought). If you have any comments about my use of the tools I would be glad to hear from you on my talk page. Thanks again! Heimstern Läufer 08:12, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

Regarding speedy deletion of the Quarantine_(nightclub) article
editHi Jaranda! Just a quick note to say that I am a little bemused by your speedy deletion of the Quarantine_(nightclub) article that I created last Saturday night. Although I will agree that the article was a bit sparse (I created it initially as a stub) I was planning to edit more in over time, and given that there are several other articles for U.K. nightclubs on Wikipedia, I would consider that my addition was perfectly valid and justifiable.
I notice that you cited the A7 category as the reason for your deletion. Would this still apply if I cite the clubs position and standing in the local community, events and other such things, or is it best left alone?
Hyperspeed 01:00, 26 February 2007 (UTC)
The club really needs to be nationally known with valid, reliable sources for wikipedia, that club had no claim of notabilty, let me see the other UK nightclubs article, most of them likely don't claim notabily as well. Thanks Jaranda wat's sup 01:10, 26 February 2007 (UTC)
regarding deletion of Abraham Casto article submitted by jcasto1
editHi Jaranda - I'm new, still learning. Curious as to code or reason for deletion, so I can work to improve next one. Couldn't find reference to the code. jcasto1.
A week ago or so I ended up watchlisting this page due to some blanking, so I noticed a day or so ago that you reverted it to a redirect, apparently as a result of an AfD discussion. This is not sticking, and a variety of accounts, some possibly SPAs, continue to recreate the article. I do not feel that it's a solid enough situation to possibly violate 3RR, so I figured I'd let you know. Natalie 01:31, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

editwhile i disagree with your hasty closing of the deletion debate (keep arguments were not countered - and the only remaining issue, verifiability, could have been fixed with references) rather than bring it up to deletion review, i'd rather work on the section in Pokemon Emerald and then once it is large enough, split it again at a later time, that way ensuring it is created as a better article. That said, there were large amounts of information on the original article that are now inaccessible and i wanted to know if you could userfy it for me. thnx in advance -ΖαππερΝαππερ BabelAlexandria 23:00, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

Hello. You deleted Sam Cookson about a week ago, an A7 by the looks of the log summary. Can you check its history to see if it was previously about a more notable Sam Cookson, a footballer from the 1920s? The Answers mirror suggests this. If so, can you undelete it? I would like to expand it. Oldelpaso 14:41, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

editKyle Eckel
edituser Chrisjnelson continues to revert your corrections and continues to post harmful and unofficial information into this biography of living person.
His comments include "kicked out of the Navy" as well as discussing financial issues that are not properly sourced and can not be properly sourced since they are untrue.
By seeing the edit history its obvious that Chrisjnelson has a special interest in spreading malicious information about my client.
Judging from your awards and past participation in the removal of harmful and incorrect information from the article titled Kyle Eckel I thought you would be willing to further help the situation by taking the proper steps to completely block user Chrisjnelson from ever editing the biography ever again
Thank you very much for your time.

- Jaranda, do you have any other background on this? http://www.belleville.com/mld/miamiherald/email/sports/16044329.htm seems to be a valid source for the statement that had been in the article. (I have no preference in the matter - I just noticed the issue on BLPN.) --BigDT 04:43, 5 March 2007 (UTC)
Kyle Eckel Pt. II
editI did cite the information. From the beginning. I consider The Miami Herald a reliable for source for news, seeing as how it's a huge newspaper. What's the problem here? And as far as the guy above me saying I have an interest in spreading malicious, that's just ridiculous. I posted the info and sourced it. I did nothing wrong. If he wants to hide that truth about it, that's his business. But I don't deserve to be made to look like the bad guy here.Chris Nelson 04:53, 5 March 2007 (UTC)
Kyle Eckel Pt. III
editCiting newspaper articles, blogs, personal opinions etc are not valid or credible sources regardless of how "big" the source is.
The newspaper itself, and any newspaper for that matter, is unable to cite any specific and OFFIAL information. Pure hear say is being used for any article or any information Chrisjnelson is adding to this article.

Kyle Eckel Pt. V
editNo its not
The Navy Times is a private publication. The Navy Times is not sponsored or published by the Navy. The Navy Times writes its own stories and is a paper that covers the Navy due to its own decision.
Again, if you do research you'll see the Navy Times is a private newspaper that has absolutely no affiliation with the Navy other then the coverage it tries to offer. "Navyfootball 05:29, 5 March 2007 (UTC)"
- For the sake of not carrying on the discussion across four different pages, I suggest we move it to Talk:Kyle Eckel. I have added the three sources that we have there for discussion. Can we continue the discussion there? --BigDT 05:42, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

editJaranda,
Kyle Eckel continues to be added to or tampered with on a semi daily basis despite revisions by Admins. It seems some Admins use their priveledges ethically and others use Wikipedia as their own personal blog or debate forum. Anything we can do to take care of this problem once and for all? Anything permanent? thank you "Navyfootball 20:01, 5 March 2007 (UTC)"

Sports articles
editHi Jaranda, I am writing about your posting at Wikipedia:Reward_board. I have been the primary editor in bringing several articles on college football to GA status:
- Vince Young - former GA, working right now to adress why it was delisted and get it relisted.
- Colt McCoy - current GA
- 2006 Alamo Bowl - current GA
Also, while not the primary author, I helped with the following:
- 2005 NCAA Division I-A football rankings - current FA
- 2006 NCAA Division I-A football rankings - current nom for FA - looks like it will pass based upon the support so far.
- Ralphie - current GA - I helped with the text and provided the lead photo (GFDL-self)
- Oklahoma Sooners football - contributions to the text
Please let me know if the above contributions meet your criteria for the bounty. Best, Johntex\talk 17:17, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

That was a week ago, and he prodded it instead, but it's a valid CSD A7 and completely unsourced, and you aren't reading the policy pages that I been giving you, blanking them and asking for other admins for help. Sigh Jaranda wat's sup 03:33, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
I had to undelete the page and reopen the RFD discussion. Despite first appearances, it's not actually an attack - it's a recognized slang term (though misspelled) for a person with that syndrome. I've attempted to explain further on the RfD page. Sorry. Rossami (talk) 02:04, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

Augusta High School deletion
editJaranda, would you please fill me in on the Augusta High School (Kentucky) stubification? I had been aware of a request to delete the article from outside WP, but the resulting discussion I saw seemed to indicate that that would not happen. Why now? I don't recall anything particularly controversial in the article. And why would WP comply with such a request? Also, does the WP:OTRS reference just mean that the delete request came in via email? Is there a discussion covering this decision archived someplace? Thank you.

American Idol contestants protection
editI don't know if the discussion at Talk:American Idol was a consideration that led you to protect List of American Idol contestants. Just to let you know, I do not support recreation of a deleted article unless I strongly feel the article is warranted. (I have not recreated any previously deleted articles, by the way.) This protection was a rather extreme way to lead me to think such an article is unwanted. For that reason and other circumstances, I am not going to recreate it. I just want to ask you when, if ever, would such an article be appropriate in your view. Tinlinkin 05:47, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

Why did you SProtect Virginia_Tech_massacre?
editFrom WP:SPP, "Semi-protection should not be used: As a preemptive measure against vandalism before any vandalism has occurred.". You're stopping many legitimate editors from making edits, and I didn't see much to any vandalism before you protected it. -Halo 18:20, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
- I think that Jaranda made a wise choice. Look at edits such as this: [1] See the timeline section. There's been a lot of vandalism coming in from IPs and there's at least 6, 7, 8 edits occurring per minute right now which is making vandalism tough to fight. Metros232 18:22, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
- One amount of vandalism compared to dozens of constructive edits. Lots of edits happening per minute means vandalism gets removed quickly. -Halo 18:27, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
- Not really with edit conflicts up the wahzoo. Metros232 18:30, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
- Perhaps for now - I just think that hasty sprotecting of pages seems to happen a lot on Wikipedia, which is against policy, takes time to get rid of, can be almost impossible to get rid of at times (since it's admins and the admins don't have to answer to anybody) and is to the detriment of many articles -Halo 18:33, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
- I think that it's appropriate for now while everything is still developing (after all, we're an encyclopedia, not a major news outlet, we don't need to have every detail as it comes in). Jaranda put it for 24 hours of protection, I wouldn't be surprised if another admin (I might wind up doing this later) lifts the protection later today--maybe in 6, 8, 10 hours--when the information is more concrete. Metros232 18:36, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
- I completely disagree - it contradicts policy (again, WP:SPP - it's designed to stop persistent vandalism, not preempt it), and also means edits can't get though, which is extremely important for new up-to-date articles, which is why we're having this discussion -Halo 18:38, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
