1. What makes good articles important to you?

the most important thing about both Good Articles and Featured Articles is that they (can) act as Stable/Concensus versions that degraded articles can be compared with down the track with the click of a diff button. It allows for better monitoring of content. as criteria for Featured Articles have got more complex, Good Article status has become a practical waypoint between initial cleanup and a crack at FA-hood. Also both encourage collaborative editing. I'd say in 95% or more of GA/FA nominations, I am given input that is helpful in improving the article Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 10:44, 14 February 2020 (UTC)

2. Why do you contribute to good articles?

Mainly for the reasons outlined above - I was a little dismayed when I realised anything I had written could be overwritten or removed, and then found out about the Featured Article process. 3. Do you think that good articles are more important than featured articles, or vice versa?

They serve different roles to some degree. I don't think ranking one against the other is helpful. Together with the DYK process, these are the only three active areas of general article review (actually I am not sure how active GOCE is these days) Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 10:14, 15 February 2020 (UTC)

4. Do you believe that any article can be a good article?

I suspect not - most can, but I think that there would be some articles on (say) small town in some third-world countries, obscure organisms or distant galaxies that qualify as standalone but have too few sources. Still I think if you really dig you can be surprised by what you find. For instance, see Kelly pool, which I reviewed and promoted in 2009 - discussion here. I also made a bet with myself that if I got the 5 millionth article I would try to get it to FA-hood. This was Persoonia terminalis. I find that many many articles have much more material waiting to be found. This is one of the good things about the GA?FA process in that it encourages and pushes editors to find stuff. 5. Currently, 0.5% of articles are rated as good articles. Where do you see this number in the future (5 years, 10 years, etc.)?

Hopefully higher - processes like DYK and Wikipedia:The Great Britain/Ireland Destubathon and my own Wikipedia:Stub Contest serve to push people to expand stubs, adding another layer of structured review before attempting a to improve and article to GA-hood. Actually I'd be interested to see a graph of percentage of articles that are Good/Featured over time but I don't have time to go ferreting around for it now. 6. What are your views on A-Class reviews?

In an ideal world they are a great idea, and the medicine wikiproject has tried to intorduce them there, but there has been no activity on this. In a landscape where reviewers are stretched I am not so sure that its benefits out weigh the issue of stretching reviewers too thinly Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 12:31, 17 February 2020 (UTC)

7. Do you think it should be necessary to progress from good article to featured article, or should it be OK to jump straight to featured status?

No. I think it helps alot for many articles but there are times it is not needed (short articles, lots of input). Remember wikipedia tries not to be a bureaocracy. Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 08:54, 18 February 2020 (UTC)

8. What are your thoughts on good article reassessments (GARs)?

It means that if an article has degraded and is reassessed and found not to fit the GA criteria then it is no longer a Good Article. It means that the category means what it says it means Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 11:28, 19 February 2020 (UTC)

9. Do you think that there should be edit protection on all good articles?

I do for Featured Articles, and had not given it too much thought for Good Articles. If there was a consensus to do so I would most likely support, but it is somewhat antithetical to "anyone can edit" ethos.... Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 02:01, 21 February 2020 (UTC)
