Thjothvitnir
editAbout Me
editI am a 21 year old male from Kentucky, United States. I was born on 16 August, 1988. I have lived here in Kentucky my entire life and have never traveled outside of the US, although I hope to someday.
Interests
editI have a large spectrum of interests covering a wide range of topics. I am currently a history major at Eastern Kentucky University and plan to take my degree to a doctorate.
Military Interests
editI have a great interest in military weaponry from all eras, with the true focus being after the invention of the firearm, and am fairly knowledgeable on the subject. Stemming from this is an interest in military history, notable generals and tacticians, and military tactics. I have an especial fondness for guerrilla warfare. I also personally collect many military surplus firearms and accessories, and have representatives of the main battle rifles of every participant country, both major and minor, in the Second World War. In addition, I have spotty coverage for various carbines and general equipment.
I have also begun really getting into arms and armor from the medieval period in Europe, as well as the more philosophical side of warfare seen in The Book of Five Rings, among other Eastern works.
Non-Military Historical Interests
editI am highly interested in Norse mythos, as one may guess from my name, with especial focus on the god Tyr. I am also interested in ancient architecture, especially Roman and what remains of early Celtic architecture and religious artifacts. I am also becoming fairly well versed in the Japanese language.
Origin of the Name
editI am constantly asked about my name. The name "Thjothvitnir" was a name I began using several years ago. It stems from an alternate name for Skoll used only once that I can find, in the Poetic Edda, specifically the poem of Grímnismál.
Normally, I borrow the name of Tyr, but it is often already taken; not surprisingly, Thjothvitnir is always available.
