Sponge
[edit]I don't reckon the Spongebob Squarepants link is vandalism on the Sponge Wikipedia page. I'd argue it's a relevant see also! I'll leave your invisible message there, but it seems to be fairly innocent :) End (talk) 23:46, 20 May 2026 (UTC)
- Yeah, sorry. It just didn't seem particularly connected to the field of biology, but I guess as a see also it works. &RezAlt! (talk) 16:09, 21 May 2026 (UTC)
- I removed the reference before seeing this discussion. I maybe have a more conservative view of the appropriateness of 'See Also' links, but I felt in this case it didn't add much to the article. I agree that the inclusion is not vandalism, and appreciate any further dialogue about whether the inclusion is appropriate. Maltice (talk) 17:16, 21 May 2026 (UTC)
- I'm not particularly bothered as to whether it's there or not, but I guess it's more funny than useful. It does pass the manual of style checks as seen here, but ultimately it's just up to whether we'd like it or not, because of common sense guidelines. End (talk) 21:59, 21 May 2026 (UTC)
- Yes, that's what I was really thinking about. The question is though, now you've deleted it, do we leave it as is or add it again ? I agree the article really focuses on the biology of Sea Sponges though. Speaking of which, though, should we rename the article to "Sea Sponge" to remove ambiguity ? (object/animal &RezAlt! (talk) 22:12, 21 May 2026 (UTC)
- That's a very valid point. Perhaps it could be raised on the Talk:Sponge page? I'd argue that a "sponge" tends to have to connotations of the cleaning implement, whilst thinking of "sea sponge" as the animal, though I'm not a biology expert. End (talk) 22:22, 21 May 2026 (UTC)
- My thoughts exactly. What of the See also reference that sparked this whole conversation though ? Do we restore it, or just leave it deleted ? &RezAlt! (talk) 22:45, 21 May 2026 (UTC)
- I reckon I'll restore it. It's not linked elsewhere in the article, which means it qualifies for See Also, and is a significant character based off of a sea sponge. Whilst (obviously) this is not the purpose of Wikipedia, it might also serve to make some people laugh. End (talk) 22:50, 21 May 2026 (UTC)
- Got it. You have rollback ? &RezAlt! (talk) 00:10, 22 May 2026 (UTC)
- Sorry. I realized that you can just put the link back. I'm going to do that right now. Sorry again ! &RezAlt! (talk) 00:12, 22 May 2026 (UTC)
- Again, sorry for the notification spam, I just realized you did it. Thank you. &RezAlt! (talk) 00:13, 22 May 2026 (UTC)
- That's okay! I just put it back in manually. I don't have rollback per se, but Twinkle provides a similar role in general. End (talk) 00:29, 22 May 2026 (UTC)
