Speedy deletion nomination of North Miami Community Schools
editA tag was placed on North Miami Community Schools requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, but..... I missed the CSD exception for schools..... So I have removed the tag. Please see the article and expand it to make it notable and referenced. Thanks, Ariconte (talk) 23:52, 23 November 2009 (UTC)
Vernacular names
editAnybody know about the status of the vernacular names "bull-horned dung beetle" and "bull-headed dung beetle"? Are they in use in particular regions? Mind you, "taurus scarab" is a pretty excellent vernacular name. Q·L·1968 ☿ 22:21, 30 September 2013 (UTC)
Comment
editIt may be beneficial to add a section that discusses the life cycle of this species with information on life expectancy, reproduction, and mating behaviors. Gbuml (talk) 03:33, 16 February 2024 (UTC)

Article Review
editGreat information and details over many different components of the beetle. I added hyperlinks to give more context for readers who may be newly exposed to these terms. I also added clarification in the Additional Notes heading as there was a "clarify" message from Wikipedia previously. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Amandayu19 (talk • contribs) 02:44, 22 March 2024 (UTC)
Peer Review
editI really enjoyed reading your article. There were good sections, providing pertinent information about the Onthophagus Taurus. One factoid I would have preferred to see in this article would be the benefits of dung to such beetles. What is the purpose of dung use and similar organisms that utilize dung. Otherwise, it was good that agricultural and human-related applications were included, not just information biologically. Sbimal (talk) 03:36, 22 March 2024 (UTC)
Great article! Minor edits
editThis article is very thorough and rich with information! It is clearly written and well organized. When editing through this article, I made minor gramatical changes, including rewording sentences to be more easily understood, correcting comma usage, and italicizing words that required italicization. I also added more hyperlinks throughout the article. Additionally, I added headings to large sections to help with organization, including adding two sub-headings to the life-cycle section. Article feedback
editThis article provides a great overview of Onthophagus taurus. I appreciate that the article provides detailed information about its habitat and life cycle. I found the section about polyphenism in males, where different phenotypes can arise from the same genotype, very interesting! In the last sentence of that section stating “more specifically, the growth of horns increases or decreases, respectively, in response to this environmental reprogramming” is not clear to me what this change is respective to. I also appreciate how the entry dives into the beetle’s behavior regarding factors that affect sexual selection. If possible, I would suggest expanding the behavior section to include information about how beetles care for larvae, if they have any defense mechanisms to protect themselves or their larva, and other behavioral topics. I noticed in this sexual selection section, that there is also information regarding other aspects of behavior, such as how these beetles care for their offspring. An improvement that can be done is to include another sub-section under the “Mating” heading. Finally, I appreciate how this entry provides information about how this beetle interacts with humans. I found it interesting to learn that these beetles were introduced by governments to help manage manure for livestock.
I have made some edits to this entry which I have listed here:
- Fixed spacing between entry summary
- Improved sentence structure, such as the sentence describing where the beetle resides in the habitat section.
- Edited paragraph structures in the habitat section and fixed grammar.
- Italicized the species name throughout the entry.
- Added an additional photo of this beetle to include more media.
I also noticed in the paragraph about agricultural importance and sexual selection in females that there are many consecutive sentences without a source. Please make sure that the facts stated throughout these sentences can all be referenced to the in-line citation included at the end of those sections. If they all come from the included in-line citation, you could re-emphasize the in-line citation mark in the middle of the paragraph, such as behind some controversial fact that stands out, so readers understand where they are referenced. Overall, I enjoyed reading this information article! Justinxuje (talk) 02:42, 21 March 2024 (UTC)
