Welcome! Hello I'm trying to ask User_talk:Andrewrabbott a question about the entry for Thomas Barker Mellor, as I'm currently researching one of his daughters-Miss Mabel J Mellor, born 1879. Doyou have any more info about the family?

editMany thanks for the splendid job you have done on improving Wikipedia's coverage of Churches in Cornwall - I am hugely impressed by the work you have put in. Best wishes, DuncanHill (talk) 22:53, 20 November 2008 (UTC)
Hi there; I see you went through and made amendments to a large number of college articles for the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge, including an interwiki link to an article you've created here. However, you've incorrectly formatted these edits. If you want a 'see also' reference you should use the {{seealso}} template. Can you go through and fix them (since you made those edits, that's only fair right?)? There are also concerns I have regarding the notability of examples you have provided on the List of Organ Scholars at British Universities and Colleges article: Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information and the examples you include must be notable. Church break-out articles' talk pages and WikiProjects
editHi,
I notice you've recently created a load of break-out articles for churches on the Isle of Wight (eg: Holy Cross Church, Binstead from Binstead). Appreciate the work put in to clarify the articles. However, it would have been useful if you'd had a look at the talk pages - most of the places will have had a {{WikiProject Wight}} template at the top, which could do with being on the church's page as well. If you're doing this for churches in other areas of the country, this could affect other WikiProjects as well. Hope that's helpful. :)
Thanks! --Peeky44 (talk) 19:21, 15 December 2008 (UTC)

editHello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).
Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.
When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

DYK for Sempronius Stretton
editOn 8 November 2010, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Sempronius Stretton, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that Sempronius Stretton, who sketched people in early Canada, was painted at the Duke of Wellington's annual banquet celebrating their victory at Waterloo? You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. Interesting article -- a definite for DYK!
Could you have another look at the lede paragraph of the article? The first sentence introduces a company, the second and third sentences discuss the railway that the company built, but do not say as such -- the subject of the two sentences is still the LPD Company.
In the quote I changed 'value' to 'valve', since the context suggests that is the correct word. (Could you double-check the original source, please?) My handwriting can make these two words look identical, so I suspect the same transcription error has occurred here too.
Incidentally, if you look at the article history you'll see that an anon editor has been making numerous changes -- was that you, not logged-in?

L&Y Railway ships
editHi, re this edit, I created the table with ship article names per WP:MOSSHIP. I see that you've created a number of articles on these ships, which is good. I note the use of a year disambiguator in your titles. As it is quite likely that a number of ships carries the same name, then the use of a year of launch disambiguator is in compliance with MOSSHIP. However, titles should really be at SS Foo or TSS Foo.
I suggest the following moves are made -
- Duke of Albany (1907) to TSS Duke of Albany or TSS Duke of Albany (1907) if more than one ship with that name, with TSS Duke of Albany created as a ship index page.
- Duke of Argyll (1909) to TSS Duke of Argyll or TSS Duke of Argyll (1909) as above.
- Duke of Clarence (1892) to TSS Duke of Clarence or TSS Duke of Clarence (1892) as above.
- Duke of Connaught (1902) to TSS Duke of Connaught or TSS Duke of Connaught (1902) as above.
- Duke of Cornwall (1898) to TSS Duke of Cornwall or TSS Duke of Cornwall (1898) as above.
- Duke of Cumberland (1909) to TSS Duke of Cumberland or TSS Duke of Cumberland (1909) as above.
- Duke of Lancaster (1895) to TSS Duke of Lancaster or TSS Duke of Lancaster (1895) as above.
- Duke of York (1894) to TSS Duke of York or TSS Duke of York (1894) as above.
Let me know whether you want to make the moves, or you'd like me to do the honours. Mjroots (talk) 16:11, 29 December 2010 (UTC)
- Looks like Duke of Argyll needs a shipindex page creating anyway, as does Duke of Lancaster. Mjroots (talk) 16:13, 29 December 2010 (UTC)
- I've made the moves as you can see. PS is the preferred prefix for paddle steamers, rather that P.S. (or worse, P/S). Any questions about ship articles please ask at WT:SHIPS. Please remember that the internet can be a great source of info which can be used to supplement book sources when writing ship articles. Mjroots (talk) 13:39, 31 December 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks. Just noticed the edits to the ship article titles. I think some of the ship names may occur on later vessels, so I'll move them if it becomes necessary. (Andrewrabbott (talk) 13:46, 31 December 2010 (UTC))
- My personal feeling is that all ships should be dabbed by year of launch, but this is not something that is supported. If it becomes apparant that an article needs to be moved, the previous title can then be turned into a shipindex page, as I did with TSS Duke of Lancaster. Should two ships have the same name and year of launch, I dab by builder, (year). Mjroots (talk) 15:19, 31 December 2010 (UTC)
- Hello Andrew. Many of these ships are not "TSS" as marine steam turbines were not used in passenger vessels until the twentieth century. (TS King Edward was the first.) So the vessels which are prefixed with "TSS" but are not turbine-powered need to be moved again. I have done that with SS Duke of Lancaster (1895). Regards, Kablammo (talk) 21:36, 26 July 2012 (UTC)

The article Sir Gervase Clifton, 4th Baronet has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- genealogical stub which establishes no notability for the subject
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Crusoe8181 (talk) 10:13, 24 September 2012 (UTC)

Hi. I wonder whether you could please help me, regarding the meaning of the letters FSSc after the above man's name? Your article contains the only mention of FSSc after a name that I can find. I'm researching a late 19th century priest who was a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, and he also had those same letters after his name (besides FRGS). However, although there are plenty of mentions of the "Science Society, London" on the internet, there is no source (that I can find) to say exactly what it was. My 19th century priest was not a member of the Royal Society (their historical membership list is online) and they use the letters FRS anyway. Any ideas? --Storye book (talk) 11:13, 1 February 2014 (UTC)

NHLE
editHi Andrew. I'm enjoying your work on listed churches. Just one suggestion: you tend to cite the British Listed Buildings website but (although useful) this is an unofficial record, uses obsolete reference numbers, and is not automatically updated as the listings change. The official list, which contains mostly the same information but, unlike BLB, is maintained and uses a current index, is the National Heritage List England (NHLE), which has its own template for referencing (see Template:NHLE). When I can be bothered, I cite both. Just a thought – keep up the good work. Dave.Dunford (talk) 14:53, 7 April 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks for the information. I'll use the template in future articles. Andrewrabbott (talk) 09:44, 8 April 2015 (UTC)

When Copying Within Wikipedia
editThank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from Pentrich, Derbyshire into St Matthew's Church, Pentrich. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. The attribution has been provided for this situation, but if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, please provide attribution for that duplication. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. Worldbruce (talk) 21:05, 27 April 2015 (UTC)

I'm based at York Museums Trust as part of the Yorkshire GLAMwiki Network Project and may be able to help you find more resources on these churches. There's also St Mary's, Castlegate which currently lacks an article and is now a de-consecrated contemporary art space used by York Museums Trust (website here). Perhaps it should get an article? There's a little on its history here and here. What do you think? Cheers, PatHadley (talk) 14:30, 11 May 2015 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of Deanery of Christianity (Lincoln)
editIf this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Deanery of Christianity (Lincoln) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), web content or organised event, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator.

editHello, You have been making many new separate articles for churches in Cornwall in the last few weeks. Blisland Parish Church is one that you have not yet improved and it is one of the more interesting of the restored parish churches. Edit summaries, please
editOnce again:
- Please make a habit of providing an edit summary when you make a change to an article. Doing so makes it easier for your colleagues here to understand the intention of your edit.
- Plus, it will be easier for you and your co-editors to collaborate on articles if, instead of making multiple consecutive edits in rapid succession on an article, you use the "Show preview" button to view your changes incrementally before finally saving the page once you're satisfied with your edits. This keeps the page history of the article less cluttered.
Thanks in advance for considering these suggestions. Eric talk 14:55, 20 December 2015 (UTC)
Joseph Harris (organist)
editThere seems to be some incorrect information regarding this person's date of birth. I have been working on some family history and this Joseph Harris is my fourth great grandfather: http://www.geni.com/people/Joseph-Harris/6000000024103789199?through=6000000024104048913#/tab/source
If you click on the Google Books link in the Overview to the relevant page in A Biographical Dictionary of Actors, Actresses, Musicians, Dancers, Managers & and Other Stage Personnel in London: 1660-1800 Vol. 7 - the date of birth cited, 8 September 1743, accords with his baptism record here: https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:N1W8-LZN ,son of John and Mary, born in Bristol and christened on 08 Oct 1743.
I don't want to change anything myself on this page as I'm not an experienced and confident Wikipedian, but would like to see the information corrected if possible, please.

Yellow fever and Capt. Kelly
editIn this edit You appended the statement about deaths of crew duty yellow fever with "including Capt. Kelly". However, our article on Capt. Kelly Benedictus Marwood Kelly Indicates he lived till 1867.

Category:William Neville Ashbee railway stations
editI see you have recently created this category; I created the original article about W. N. Ashbee. In the interests of consistency, should the category also use his initials, rather than full name? This is how he is generally referred to in sources. Ultimately, there might be a case for renaming both as "Neville Ashbee" as I formed the impression from one source that this is how he was known in his life, but as yet I haven't found enough evidence to justify a change. In the meantime I think we should have consistency between article and category. The Sage of Stamford (talk) 18:19, 30 August 2016 (UTC)

You might remember that you very kindly sent me a barnstar for my article on the above, five years ago. As a consequence of the research, I got the building listed on the grounds of it being a pristine and almost unchanged example of the architect's work. However, I've recently learned that the vicar and churchwardens have now gained permission to gut the place on the grounds of modern community needs. This is a small village, not an inner-city church with massive amounts of parochial and social work to do. They are going to remove the pews (designed by the architect) to clear the floor entirely, and punch a hole in the side for a kitchen and lavatory. Other churches in the area have been adapted far more discreetly. They are going to put in a lot of lighting too. All this will completely destroy the type of theatre for storytelling, in an atmosphere of natural light and shade, that Barber went in for. No longer a peaceful otherworld for sacredness and mystery, but now a secular area for a secular approach. The sad thing is that future generations may well want this building, which is a work of art, to go back the way it was, but the pews and maybe other stuff will be gone forever. I have no religion myself, but even I can see that the place had atmosphere. Storye book (talk) 08:19, 6 June 2019 (UTC)
PS Baron Osy
editPS Baron Osy (1851), which you created seems to have some inaccuracies. You state that she was renamed Malakhoff in 1856, but she was still named Baron Osy in April 1857 when she ran down and sank HMRC Curlew. At the time, she was a Belgian registered ship. Mjroots (talk) 09:31, 9 September 2019 (UTC)
- I believe that the Baron Osy of 1851 was renamed Malakhoff because a new ship taking the name Baron Osy was built in 1855. There is an article on it on the Dutch Wikipedia site here https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baron_Osy_(schip,_1855) Andrewrabbott (talk) 12:37, 11 September 2019 (UTC)

editAll Saint's Yafforth - which Pritchett?
editHi Andrew,
I've recently created a page for James Pigott Pritchett Jr of Darlington, son of James Pigott Pritchett of York, and have been trying to work out which of Wikipedia's references to the father actually mean the son.
The page for All Saints' Church, Yafforth which you created a few years ago, says:
The church dates from the twelfth century but was almost completely rebuilt in 1870 to designs by the architect James Pigott Pritchett of Darlington. Pritchett died in 1868 before the church was completed.
There must be an error here - the JP Pritchett who died in 1868 did not practice in Darlington - but I don't know which part is wrong. The listed building register just says "Virtually rebuilt in 1870 by J P Pritchett".
It seems more likely to me that the rebuilding was the work of JP Pritchett of Darlington, who was still alive in 1870 to do the work; but I didn't know if there was a specific source saying that the Pritchett in question had died in 1868 (so was JP Pritchett of York). The answer may be in the York Herald article you cited, but I don't have a login to read that.
Thanks for any help you can offer! TSP (talk) 19:00, 28 January 2020 (UTC)
Hi TSP, I'm afraid I don't know. The article only mentions JP Pritchett but doesn't specify which one. Andrewrabbott (talk) 20:30, 17 March 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks Andrew - if the source doesn't specifically mention the Pritchett in question dying in 1868, then I think that will be Pritchett Jr. TSP (talk) 17:26, 20 March 2020 (UTC)

Wikipedia Library Country Life
editHi,
Sorry for using your talk page, but I couldn't think of a better way to access you. You have shown an interest in British (Country House) Architectural History. I have suggested that Wikipedians gain access to the Country Life Archive on The Wikipedia Library (https://wikipedialibrary.wmflabs.org/suggest/). Please feel free to support this suggestion (titled "Country Life Archive (Proquest)" on the linked page) if you think this is a good idea.
Feel free to @ me here with any questions.

St Thomas's Church, Grenville Street, Birmingham
editHi there, strange query but I have read that you edited the information for St Thomas' Church on Grenville Street, Birmingham recently. I am currently trying to get the information as to who owns The Peace Garden at St Thomas' as my Grandma and Grandad wanted their ashes scattered there as they grew up around there. Really hope you can help. Hannah 80.1.12.65 (talk) 09:56, 12 July 2024 (UTC)
- I'm afraid I don't know who owns it. There are some who say it is a public park, so perhaps start with Birmingham City Council? Andrewrabbott (talk) 17:19, 11 August 2024 (UTC)
The article Tower Bridge railway station has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Stub, doesn't help anything, aren't many references.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Loymdayddaud (talk) 08:46, 25 August 2024 (UTC)
