Highlights

• Improving Account Creation process: As part of Account Creation Experiments an improved account creation form has been released. The form now provides live username validation, a clearer username policy popover, and a reveal password button. We also removed redundant elements and jarring warning messages, improved the form's information hierarchy, and aligned the design with Codex design system guidelines.
• Create charts from your own data: The new ChartWizard makes the Chart extension more beginner-friendly by allowing editors to create charts, such as bar and pie charts, without needing to use JSON. The ChartWizard is now available on Wikimedia Commons. Feedback on the new tool is welcome on the wish talk page.

Worklist feature opened from Eventdetails page

• Worklist Feature Setup Workshop: Are you organizing or planning a Wikimedia editing event soon? Join one of these workshops (Aug 18 at 16:00 UTC and Aug 19 at 11:00 UTC) to set up the new worklist feature for your event. With this feature, organizers can list the specific articles their event will focus on, directly on the event page.
• Reading Lists to launch as full feature: The Reading Lists, a Community Wishlist item, will be launched in September as a full feature. Volunteer translator help is needed for string translations into a number of languages before the launch.
• Improving Commons' section headings: The table of contents on Wikimedia Commons file pages was improved to make it easier to understand a file page’s structure, navigate to specific sections, and share links to individual sections.
• From Abstract Wikipedia: An apple is a fruit and new experimental type: anonymous functions.
• Latest experiments: An upcoming experiment would test methods for email confirmation enforcement for new accounts to determine which approach is the most effective at driving email confirmation. See all live, upcoming, and completed experiments in Product & Technology.
• Tech News: The latest highlights from Tech News week 32 and 33 include that Category pages will soon support sorting entries by the time they are added to a category to make it easier to find recently or long-standing categorized pages. See also the 43 community submitted tasks that were resolved over the last two weeks.

Shem Kellogg image

Hello, I noticed that you were the user that deleted the image of Shem Kellogg when I requested it as a G7. I was just curious that before you deleted it, were you able to see the image of the subject or not? I'm only asking because for some reason, I came across Bobby Kellogg and his image doesn't seem to be showing up, and when I went to Kellogg (surname), some of the subjects images weren't showing up, and I only seen this happening with subjects with the surname "Kellogg". @MoviesandTelevisionFan I can't really tell without fully restoring it, as file description pages and files are actually two separate elements. When I try to view the deleted file page, I just see the description, but if I view the actual deleted file, I see the same file you can find at the source, if that helps at all. I do vaguely remember this though. I don't remember seeing that picture either. There has been some funny business with files lately (phab T428406) due to database migration, but the examples from that ticket seem to mostly be fixed.

From checking the articles at Kellogg (surname), however, I'm noticing that several of the commons images appear to be missing:

• Steven Kellogg
• Remington Kellogg
• Oliver Dimon Kellogg
• Orlando Kellogg
• Mark Kellogg (reporter)
• Francis L. Kellogg
• Derek Kellogg
• Brainerd Kellogg
• Alice De Wolf Kellogg

I undeleted File:Shem Kellogg.jpg for now to add to the ticket. Weird that I could see it when it was deleted, but now that it's undeleted it's not visible. ASUKITE 01:14, 19 August 2026 (UTC)

I feel that they may be the same bug, as I only seen it on some subjects whose surname is Kellogg (both public domain and fair use images). It's weird and I thought it was just Shem Kellogg, but it was also other Kellogg articles. And I hope this issue gets fixed because I was concerned about this, and when I requested G7 on Shem's image, I was gonna reupload a different image so that it can show up but I didn't do that. I saw your ticket in phab, and I wanted to say that Bobby Kellogg and John Harvey Kellogg images also are not showing up, and these were ones not included in the surname article. MoviesandTelevisionFan (talk) 01:58, 19 August 2026 (UTC)

Question re: sockpuppet user

Hi! I'm not sure if this is the right way to report this kind of thing (in fact I'm almost sure it's not right), but I believe the user you just banned for sockpuppeting (User:~2026-45534-05) is now using the new account User:~2026-45513-32. I'm trying to get more familiar with anti-vandalism procedures, so if there's a better way to report this, I'd really appreciate if you could let me know! @ User:Jamaso, good catch. The edit summaries in this case are what give them away, but you also have to look at the edits themselves. In most cases, for obvious vandalism we want to rely on warning first, then reporting to WP:AIV, however in the case of this specific sock they can probably be reported to AIV directly (vandalism + that specific edit summary, especially vandalism on the same pages as was the case here). TAIV might be worth looking into if you find yourself doing CV work, but it wouldn't have helped in this case. You can check the SPI case I linked in the block log also for examples, the SPI archives are a good way to get a feel for some of the specific LTAs we see (and there are a lot, I barely recognize more than a handful myself) ASUKITE 03:08, 20 August 2026 (UTC)

No problem, I'm always happy to answer questions. General forums like the teahouse can be helpful for a lot of things, but a lot of editors may be less willing to openly discuss antivandal work to avoid giving the vandals any advice or attention. Private chats like the counter-vandalism discord, IRC and such may get you more info. Most of what I've picked up was just from running into the vandals myself, and seeing how other editors dealt with it. ASUKITE 03:27, 20 August 2026 (UTC)

Your decline of mainspace redirects prefixed with usernames

Hi, regarding your decline of the following three redirects here 1 2 3: my rationale for nominating them under WP:G6 is that they are located in mainspace rather than userspace, thus making them redirect titles "obviously created in error" in my opinion. @Redireditor Hey! I've had that impression before, but it seems some editors like to keep the redirects in their userspace. If you look at Special:PrefixIndex/User:Netha Hussain/, you'll see a large number of similar redirects to mainspace. (It's easier to see if you have User:BrandonXLF/GreenRedirects or something similar installed).

Ultimately, keeping them doesn't serve much navigational purpose, but my impression is that the users might possibly use the redirects to track their article creations, and they're not doing any harm. The creator is free to request their deletion at any point. The few similar redirects I deleted prior to those ones had edit summaries that made it seem an error had indeed occurred. Your heading was probably worth a closer look and I skimmed ahead to the message, then assumed "they" was referring to the articles and not the redirects. They're deleted now. New pages patrol September 2026 Backlog drive

September 2026 Backlog Drive | New pages patrol
On 1 September 2026, a one-month backlog drive for new pages patrol will begin at a particularly important time for NPP. The backlog has now passed 30,000 unreviewed articles, a level that has been described in current NPP discussions as exceptionally high and potentially difficult to overcome through normal reviewing alone. Backlog drives are one of the few measures that have historically produced a noticeable reduction in the backlog, so the participation of as many active patrollers as possible will matter this month. If you can review during September, please make articles your priority. Every article that is reviewed is a meaningful reduction in the backlog. With the queue at its current size, even a relatively small increase in the number of articles each patroller reviews can add up to a substantial difference over the course of the month. This is a hybrid drive, so redirect reviewing is still included. Redirects can be a useful way for newer patrollers to get comfortable with NPP and can help people build up to reviewing articles. However, the main goal of this drive is to tackle the article backlog, and experienced patrollers are particularly encouraged to spend as much of their available reviewing time on articles as they can. Barnstars will be awarded based on the number of articles and redirects patrolled. Each article review will earn 1 point, while each redirect review will earn 0.2 points. Streak awards will be given out based on consistently hitting point thresholds for each week of the drive. Barnstars will also be granted for re-reviewing articles previously reviewed by other patrollers during the drive. If you have been thinking about doing more NPP, this is an especially good month to jump in. Whether you can review a few pages or hundreds, every review helps.
