Greek Wine Cellars

edit

I request your kind attention towards the above article, its history and all. This article quoted only a single reference which leads to wikipedia page where no useful information available about that wine company. Only thing I found in the categories down 'Companies established in Greek' its name. But I am not sure about authenticity. There is no other external links provided on the subject. Please discuss.--Avinesh Jose 06:26, 31 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hmmm... the article does look like spam. However, a Google search on "Greek Wine Cellars" [1] does seem to indicate notability. More than one website refers to GWC as the nation's largest wine producer. So I would say that it is notable but needs more references and needs a less spammy tone. --Richard 06:35, 31 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
I'm confused by this discussion; Avineshjose keeps referring to a "reference which leads to wikipedia page", but the reference is to a book, not a Wikipedia page. The book is entitled The Wines of Greece, and I've provided citation information in the section named "References". Citing books is perfectly acceptable (indeed encouraged!) on Wikipedia; see WP:RS. There is no need or preference for citing only internet sources. If you'll look on pages 238 and 239 of that book, which is widely available (you can even probably get a snippet on Google Books if you prefer), it includes a history of the company, which I summarized for this article. If you don't like the wording I'm open to changing it; I haven no particular reason to spam for the company, but simply found it odd that such a prominent winemaker had no article. --Delirium 06:44, 31 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
  • Sorry still I could not find pages 238, 239. Where is it? I said “goes to wiki” means page which redirects. I will clearly tell you what I meant, here:

a)I checked the reference you mentioned [here]. But where is the 238 page you said?
b)Google search does show some references, but you have not listed that.

This article definitely needs to be improved. But you are keeping on removing the re-improve tag. I don’t know why? I therefore requesting Richard, my mentor to solve this issue.--Avinesh Jose 06:58, 31 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

I agree with User:Delirium that Internet-accessible sources are not required but they are extremely useful and I would urge including them if they are available. Let's spend less time worrying about whether or not the article needs a {{refimprove}} tag and just improve the references already. Use some of the Google results as references. I would do it but I'm pressed for time this morning. --Richard 16:23, 1 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

About Blocking a user

edit

I would love to help, but i don't have admin rights here. You can try following the procedures outlined here: WP:AIV —Preceding unsigned comment added by Andante1980 (talkcontribs) 09:32, 1 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

User:Andante1980 is right that WP:AIV is the best place to go to report vandalism. I have blocked User:Gtrtretertg546456567 although I'm not sure that is in keeping with procedure. The standard procedure is to block if vandalism continues after the fourth warning. However, there is leeway to jump the gun for blatant vandals. See my query on WP:AIV. --Richard 16:36, 1 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
  • Thank you Richard and I have a doubt about deletion policy again. i.e. afd in 3 steps and speedy deletion. I think if an article is complete nonsense, we do tag speedy del and the same time, if another article well created and referenced but we feel that it should be deleted, we may put afd in 3 steps as we want to discuss the issue, am I right?...--Avinesh Jose 04:46, 2 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
    • You're right that, if an article is complete nonsense or if it meets any of the other criteria for speedy deletion, it should be tagged for speedy deletion. However, there are other articles that should be deleted (e.g. not notable, not encyclopedic, etc.) that don't meet the criteria of WP:CSD but do meet the criteria of WP:NOT. I don't understand why you would want to delete an article that is "well created and referenced". It's probably just a matter of semantics but if it is "well created and referenced", it should be kept. --Richard 15:54, 2 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Your e-mail address

edit

It may not be wise to put your e-mail address on your user page. Enable e-mail in your preferences. That way, if people want to e-mail you, they can do so but your e-mail address won't be revealed to them unless you reply to them. This keeps people from using your e-mail for spam or attacks. It's also considered risky to use your real name as your user name (I know, I do it but that was a mistake). You may wish to choose a different username and stop using this one. This may seem paranoid to you but there are weirdos on the Internet and there's no point in revealing your real identity unnecessarily.

--Richard 15:57, 2 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

  • Hi Richad, Thanks for your concern and the generous support. I did change it as you suggested. In reality, I rummage around of a new user name and hopeful to make the alteration soon.--Avinesh Jose 06:06, 3 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Asha

edit

I've had to revert your recent edits at Asha. The two words have nothing to do with one another. What you were probably looking for is at Asha (disambiguation), as the hatnote indicates. -- Fullstop 15:20, 3 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

please try to understand WP:MOVE first, before you embark on moving and renaming acrobatics. If you are reverted try to understand what is going on before just repeating your actions: this will just waste other people's time. dab (𒁳) 11:46, 5 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

How things work at Wikipedia

edit

In a comment to Dbachmann, you said "I will let my mentor, Richard, decide". That's a nice sentiment but it is not for me to decide such things. It is true that I am an admin but so is Dbachmann. Being an admin is not all that special. I do have a few extra buttons (most notably WP:DELETE, WP:PROTECT, WP:BLOCK) but everything I do is subject to review.

Most importantly, an admin still has to abide by consensus. What Dbachmann is saying is that the decision on Asha is not up to him or up to me. It is up to a consensus of those who express an opinion on the Talk Page.

Now, personally, I agree with Dbachmann for reasons that I explained at Talk:Asha but I am just one voice in the consensus. My being an admin doesn't give me any more say in the decision than Dbachmann has or than you have.

It might be useful for you to review the five pillars of Wikipedia.

Username issue with Fullstop

edit

Hi, I just removed the listing for User:Fullstop from Wikipedia:Usernames for administrator attention. The username, while also the name of a punctuation mark, is not so confusing as to warrant being blocked. We don't need to apply the rules very strictly, and this username shouldn't be much of a problem regardless. Our focus is to remove unacceptably confusing names, rather than force names to be overly simple. Cheers, Nihiltres(t.l) 07:11, 10 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion of Radio Joy Alukkas

edit

A tag has been placed on Radio Joy Alukkas, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article seems to be blatant advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read our the guidelines on spam as well as the Wikipedia:Business' FAQ for more information.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. - Jameson L. Nominating articles for deletion

Home based business

I've deleted Home based business as spam (which it incontrovertibly was) but I can't for the life of me work out why you tagged it as attack!

Sancharam is not only TV program, but internet media also. sancharam.com claims to be first Internet television in Kerala. That's why I added. I think it is worth keeping the Internet media's also (but you deleted). Since we have Internet radio, it is worth keeping information for Internet media also, right?--Avinesh Jose (talk) 04:46, 5 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Redirect of Labour India

edit

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Labour India, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Labour India is a redirect to a non-existent page (CSD R1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Labour India, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. To see the user who deleted the page, click here CSDWarnBot (talk) 04:31, 7 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Instead of contesting the deletion of the article it is redirecting to there, try checking for the article here.-Carados (talk) 04:46, 7 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
I think the deletion took place by mistake.

First of all, I don’t know who you are and which article you are talking about. The above comment looks like a ‘Sneaky vandalism’ (or something else) per WP:VAN, or else clear it properly. --Avinesh Jose (talk) 04:44, 8 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion of Charles Shobraj

edit

A tag has been placed on Charles Shobraj requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.
