A barnstar for you!

  The Editor's Barnstar
Great work on expanding Swarnakumari Devi, which I came across in NPP and expanded a little, but your further expansion and cleanup is very impressive! Bungle (talkcontribs) 18:04, 4 October 2022 (UTC)
Thank you, Bungle, and that book you found is awesome - your work to expand the article also inspires me that much more in my goal to become an NPP reviewer. Thanks again, Beccaynr (talk) 18:52, 4 October 2022 (UTC)
Sometimes, i'll see an article in NPP that I want to research/validate further and may find interesting/helpful sources which I think will help assure the article staying. It's great you found the book even more useful though to expand upon! Bungle (talkcontribs) 20:57, 4 October 2022 (UTC)
I like your approach, Bungle, and it reminds me of AfD when trying to expand articles either during or after discussions - I didn't realize how well it works with NPP until I saw your work, so now I am even more motivated to study up on NPP. Cheers! Beccaynr (talk) 00:56, 5 October 2022 (UTC)

Too much AGF

Hello. I sincerely thank you for your civilized approach on Wikipedia. But I believe you assume too much good faith and it can have a negative effect even on your own work (by wasting your own time which could have been better spent to expand the content of articles), not to mention the community and the project as a whole. Please see how one person has gamed the entire system for one AfD: Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Khabat4545 and Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Mahsa Amini. Not only he has created the article, but also voted keep for at least 7 times! He also canvassed some other users. Regards 4nn1l2 (talk) 14:45, 11 October 2022 (UTC)

Hi 4nn1l2, I very much appreciate you reporting the socks - I had concerns about socking but had not felt I had enough evidence to filed a report at SPI. And in the AfD, I did cite WP:GAME and ping an admin, although because of the way the article had been created, the apparent evasion of consensus, and the development of what I described as a WP:TNT-worthy POV fork. And I contested the move of the article during the AfD. We are now in the midst of another discussion more specifically focused on preventing disruption to the encyclopedia, and I am taking a 'warn/educate first, then block if disruption continues' approach, but if the community consensus prefers another option, then that is what it will be, and my hope is that my effort to educate and inform about our conduct policies will help protect the encyclopedia in the future. However, I appreciate your feedback, and please always feel free to visit my Talk page with any comments you may have. Thank you, Beccaynr (talk) 15:36, 11 October 2022 (UTC)

Clarification

The birth year of Swarnakumari Devi is 1855. This information is absolutely correct. It was written on the basis of history of Bengali literature books, Bengali Wikipedia, Bengali wikisource. Knowing the real facts I created the respective article. Wikifulness (talk) 09:50, 12 October 2022 (UTC)

Hi Wikifulness, thank you for following up. I included 1855 and 1856 in the article because we have reliable sources for both dates. The biographies of living persons policy says in the WP:DOB section: If multiple independent reliable sources state differing years or dates of birth in conflict, the consensus is to include all birth dates/years for which a reliable source exists, clearly noting discrepancies. In this situation, editors must not include only one date/year which they consider "most likely", or include merely a single date from one of two or more reliable sources. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks again, Beccaynr (talk) 14:26, 12 October 2022 (UTC)

Adani Group

Hey User:Beccaynr, there is a similar editing incident happening at Adani Group as we once faced at Byju's. COI IPs are heavily editing the page. How should we go about dealing with them? RPSkokie (talk) 15:36, 17 October 2022 (UTC)

Hi RPSkokie, I tend to ask for page protection at WP:RFPP when there is persistent disruptive editing from IPs. In the request, it may help to describe a little bit about what the disruption is, e.g. are the IPs repeatedly adding unsourced information? It can also help to first leave a template warning message on the Talk page of the IPs explaining what the problem is with their editing and asking them to stop. Beccaynr (talk) 15:54, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
@Beccaynr Yes, these sets of IPs repeatedly adding unsourced information and company website links. I have inserted several warning messages into their respective talk pages. But there are too many of them, and most of them are partially blocked. RPSkokie (talk) 16:07, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
RPSkokie, what you just wrote seems like a solid report for WP:RFPP. Sometimes it can take a few attempts to get long-lasting page protection, but it seems to be a good idea to make a request based on what has been happening. Beccaynr (talk) 16:13, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
Beccaynr I lack the knowledge and tenacity to make my point and take the conversation forward at WP:RFPP. You witnessed that during Lalita Iyer's AfD discussion. RPSkokie (talk) 16:23, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
I can try to make a report at WP:RFPP, although it seems that you have the best knowledge of the situation, so I encourage you to add relevant information after I make the report. As to the Lalita Iyer AfD, that article was a poorly-sourced mess when nominated and it took me a long time to find sources (and your concern about the independence of the reviews seemed reasonable to me as a general matter, and it was something I had considered when adding sources), so I thought it was a fine nomination and a good discussion, and it helped the article be further developed, which from my view, is always a good outcome at AfD. Beccaynr (talk) 17:02, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
RPSkokie, I have posted the request here, and please let me know if you have any questions. Beccaynr (talk) 17:14, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
@Beccaynr thank you. RPSkokie (talk) 03:24, 18 October 2022 (UTC)

Ed Douglas

Hey User:Beccaynr, thanks for your insightful comments on Lalita Iyer's AfD. Could you evaluate Ed Douglas's notability? He has authored about seven to eight books on the Himalayas. However, I failed to collect any citations to substantiate his prominence. Does he qualify for a page? Last week, I created a page for one of his books titled Himalaya: A Human History. RPSkokie (talk) 06:07, 17 October 2022 (UTC)

Hi RPSkokie, thank you for your comments as well, and I would be happy to look for sources - I can plan on searching the Wikipedia library, where I have access to the Taylor & Francis database, which can be particularly good for author sources. Cheers, Beccaynr (talk) 06:17, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
@Beccaynr Thanks. RPSkokie (talk) 06:52, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
Hi RPSkokie, I found book reviews for Tenzing: Hero of Everest: A Biography of Tenzing Norgay on ProQuest, and have been trying to find more accessible links, e.g. Publishers Weekly. The book is being adapted into a film, e.g. Sydney Morning Herald, Rock and Ice, Variety, UKClimbing, by the same director of the film Sherpa, where Douglas is described a "key character" (this film also has reviews). There are also reviews for his book Regions of the Heart: The Triumph And Tragedy of Alison Hargreaves. I also found a 2017 interview with some secondary content in UKClimbing that could help develop a BLP. I think searching for reviews for each one of his books will take some time but WP:AUTHOR notability seems supported by his collective body of work subject to multiple reviews and other indications of notability. I suggest creating a BLP draft for now - I would be happy to add information from reviews and help develop the article, and articles for his books can also be split into separate articles as support per WP:NBOOK develops. Beccaynr (talk) 01:10, 19 October 2022 (UTC)
@Beccaynr Thank you so much for your assistance. Now I have the outline for the BLP draft. RPSkokie (talk) 02:14, 19 October 2022 (UTC)
@Beccaynr I am considering putting together a page titled "Tenzing: Hero of Everest" first. After that, later on, I shall get started on Ed Douglas' page. The purpose of contemplation: Venkat TL's words "As for books I believe at least 2 notable books are needed before an author's page can be created." at Talk:The Concept of Active Defence in China's Military Strategy. RPSkokie (talk) 13:12, 19 October 2022 (UTC)
Tenzing: Hero of Everest clearly has WP:NBOOK support for an article, especially with the planned film, and there are reviews already found on ProQuest (if you have not yet signed up for the Wikipedia Library, I recommend it). There appears to be a lot of information related to this book, so I think it is helpful to create this article first. I have approached author BLPs in both directions, e.g. Paula Richman (book articles could be created), Susan Kingsley Kent (same), Jen Manion (book articles written first), because the notability of the books and author are supported by the sources, not the existence of separate book articles. However, I think it is ideal to create separate book articles for notable books when possible, and this is part of why I talk about my "neverending to-do list". Beccaynr (talk) 13:52, 19 October 2022 (UTC)
RPS since I dont know this author or the book, I have no opinion on the notability. Yes multiple (i.e more than one) reviews in reliable source would be needed for it to survive. Venkat TL (talk) 14:07, 19 October 2022 (UTC)
